HANDLEBAR TAPE

In order to be able to steer safely it is
important that the handlebar tape is
fi rmly fi xed. Regular checks prevent
trouble. Torn handlebar tape can also
cause accidents during cycling so it is
advisable to replace it as soon as possi-
ble. Your Batavus dealer always knows
what to do.

GEAR OPTIONS

This system means that you have a
large number of gear options at your
disposal so that you can anticipate road
and weather conditions and react ac-
cordingly.
Gear switches usually shift in 2 or 3
steps (2 or 3 chainwheels) at the front
and in 7 to 10 steps (7 to 10 sprocket
wheels) at the rear.
If properly adjusted, this system shifts
gears extremely well. When cycling, the
chain should be as straight as possible
(or in other words, a straight chain
line).

Avoid a diagonal chain line to prevent
premature wear. So for the outer chain-
wheel (front) do not use the innermost
sprocket wheel (which is closest to the
spokes) on the freewheel and vice versa
(4).
ADJUSTING THE FRONT AND REAR
DERAILLEURS
If the derailleur does not respond to
your commands immediately, you can
usually adjust it easily. If the chain
comes off the innermost or outermost
chainwheel (front) or the innermost
or outermost sprocket wheel (rear),
this can be corrected by tightening the
adjusting screws on the front derailleur
(5) or rear derailleur (6) with a small
screwdriver. You can adjust the derail-
leur so that the 'clicking' of the gear
switch corresponds precisely with the

related chainwheel or sprocket wheel.
This requires a certain amount of tech-
nical insight. Your Batavus dealer will
