Coupling Ring Application
There can also be more than one ring group in a network. With the help of the
coupling ring function, two rings can be connected with a redundant backup path. It
ensures that the transmission between two ring groups works without any fault. In
case of a link down on the main coupling path, the backup path hadles the
communication betwenn the rings The scheme below is an example of a coupling
ring application.
To connect two rings the Coupling Ring function has to be activated on two switches
in each ring (e.g. switch 1 and 2 as well as switch 5 and 8 in the second ring). In a
first step the control ports have to be connected (e.g. switch 1 and 2 plus switch 5
and 8). Connections between the control ports has to be mady additionally to the
common P-Ring connection. Each coupling port has to be connected with a coupling
port of a switch in the other P-Ring group (e.g. switch 2 and 8 plus switch 1 and 5).
Coupling port and control port have to be different from the P-Ring ports.
[Note] Please to connect the control ports before you connect the backup path. Both
control port
communication will be disconnected.
