CAUTION!
Before a terminal device with a quick-disconnect wrist can be used, the terminal device must be positioned
in such a way that a slight turn of it cannot disconnect the terminal device from the prosthesis.
1 Instructions for Use
1.1 Hand Switch
Your System Electric Hand has an inconspicuous on/off switch inside the inner hand.
1.1.1 System Electric Hand, sizes 7¼, 7¾, 8¼
To turn on the Hand, press the switch on the back of the Hand (Fig. 1).
To turn off the Hand, press the switch in the thumb region (Fig. 2).
1.1.2 System Electric Hand, size 7 (Fig. 1)
Transcarpal Hand (Fig. 3)
To turn the Hand on and off, press the button on the back of the Hand. To prevent inadvertent activation or
deactivation, the ON/OFF button must be held down for approx. 1 second to turn the prosthesis on or off.
Turn the Hand off whenever you would like to maintain a certain hand position for an extended period of time,
such as while carrying a bag, holding silverware, while writing or during longer periods of passive use, e.g.
air or train journey, visit to a theater or cinema.
Turning the Hand off prevents unintentional opening of the Hand due to accidental muscle tension or electrical
interference. It also extends battery life.
The hand switch can be pressed easily with the other hand, as well as on a table edge or against your leg.
1.2 Quick-Disconnect Wrist
The quick-disconnect wrist allows a quick change from the System Electric Hand to a System Electric Greifer
and vice versa.
If your System Electric Hand is supplied with a quick-disconnect wrist (allowing passive pronation and supi-
nation) you can rotate it to a better position by turning the Hand. This makes it easier to grasp many objects.
You can also easily separate the Hand from the socket (to replace it with a System Electric Greifer) by rotating
the Hand in either direction (approx. 360°) until you feel slight resistance (Fig. 4). Once you overcome the
resistance, the Hand will disconnect from the wrist.
1.3 Locking the Quick-Disconnect Wrist
Insert the Hand's quick-disconnect wrist into the lamination ring and firmly press it in. Next, turn the System
Electric Hand slightly to the left or right. The pressure activates the locking mechanism and anchors the Hand
to the lamination ring.
Make sure the Hand or Greifer is properly attached before picking anything up.
1.4 Rechargeable Batteries
Only a fully charged Ottobock battery should be used to operate the System Electric Hand. Always keep a
charged, back-up Ottobock battery available as a replacement.
An intelligent "battery manager" alerts you to low voltage conditions: The Hand will grow slower and the
grip force will decrease. Finally, when there is very little battery capacity remaining, the Hand will switch off
automatically to protect the battery against harmful total discharge.
Ottobock recommends that you replace the battery as soon as you notice that the battery capacity is decre-
asing. Simply push the locking lever away from the battery, remove the depleted battery and replace it with a
new one. When re-inserting a battery, the locking lever automatically snaps in to secure it.
We recommend that you operate the System Electric Hand with the 757B20 or 757B21 EnergyPack or
757B25=*, 757B35=* MyoEnergy Integral, in order to be able to take advantage of the Hand's full capacity
