Now adapt the alignment by only adjusting the plantar flexion of the foot. The load line (laser
line) should be approx. 35 mm anterior to the upper front knee axis (see Fig. 6).
After step 2, dynamic optimisation can take place between parallel bars.
4.2 Combination possibilities
Information
When fabricating a prosthesis for the lower limbs, all of the prosthetic components used have
to meet the requirements in regard to the patient's body weight and activity level.
4.3 Adjustments and final assembly
4.3.1 Adjusting the bearing
The axis pins of the linkage bars are mounted in bushings and are hingedly connected to the
Upper and Lower Joint Sections. This type of bearing and assembly allows increase and decrease
of the friction as well as readjustment of tolerance variation due to wear. To this end fix Lock
Nut (12) using enclosed 709S18 Socket Wrench (14) and tighten Cap Screw (10) with 5 mm
Allen wrench (Fig. 2).
Adjustment to eliminate clearance must take place after 2 to 4 weeks walking. Every time
maintenance work is carried out, the adjustment should be controlled and the 4Z43=H Knee
Stops (13) replaced. For lubrication of the Knee Axis Bushings (7) and Slotted Bushings (8)
use 633G6 Ottobock Special Lubricant.
4.3.2 Adjusting resistance to motion
Resistance to flexion and extension are separately adjusted by moving the pins within the hori-
zontally arranged slots at the front and back side of the piston rod in the Hydraulic Swing Phase
Control (15). To this end the enclosed Adjustment Aid (19) should be used.
Moving to + = resistance increases
Moving to – = resistance decreases
4.3.3 Adjusting the flexion resistance (Fig. 3)
Moving the posterior pin (at the flexion side) to the right =
resistance decreases = easy running flexion.
Moving to the left = resistance increases = tight running flexion.
4.3.4 Adjusting the extension resistance (Fig. 4)
Flex the joint, so that the anterior pin becomes accessible.
Moving the pin to the right = resistance decreases = easy running extension.
Moving the pin to the left = resistance increases = tight running extension.
Attention!
The elastic cover of the Hydraulic Unit must be protected from mechanical damage. The
Hydraulic Unit should not be removed, as its position within the joint has been accurately
adjusted. In case of malfunctions, please return the complete joint.
4.4 Cosmetic foam cover
Use foam cover 3R6, 3S106 or 3R56 for joint 3R55 .
