To avoid this, it is important that the cutter is serviced
and inspected regularly so that reduction in cutting
capacity is detected and rectified in a timely manner.
Should the same extraction system suck varying thick-
nesses of foil, one should consider incorporating two
cutters into the system. One cutter is used for the thin
foil and the other cutter for the thicker foil.
Should foil be sucked thinner than 70µm and thicker
foil that is approx. 4 times thicker or more than the
thinnest foil, consideration should be given to incor-
porating two cutters into the system, which can be
switched between. The thin foil is cut in one cutter and
the thicker foil is cut in the other.
The system can be built as shown in the picture, with
branch pipes and sliding dampers.
Be aware that when suction is opened on one branch,
the cutter must be in operation before the dampers are
opened.
The lower damper 1 is opened first. Subsequently,
damper 2 can be opened. This prevents material in the
branch pipe from falling backwards down through the
pipe and blocking the cutter.

It is advantageous to establish a service plan for the
cutter, so that poor cutting results can be avoided. Fur-
thermore, the unused cutter should be switched off, to
avoid unnecessary wear and energy consumption.
Optimally, a solution is established which ensures that
the sliding dampers are in the correct position and that
the power is connected to the correct cutter. If benefi-
cial, damper and cutter can possibly be controlled by a
common system control unit.
Be aware that when opening for suction on one
branch, the cutter must run before opening the air
dampers.
The cutter must be mounted with a horizontal
shaft, as it will give a more even material distribu-
tion, and less concentrated wear on the knives.
With vertical knives, the foil will tend to run continu-
ously on one side - with the risk of it running in be-
tween the strip deflector and the end of the knife. The
cutter is equipped with standard ball bearings, which
are loaded by the weight of the rotor in the longitudinal
direction of the shaft. If the rotor is mounted vertically,
the load on the ball bearings increases approx. 3 times
more than with radial (horizontal) load.
Vertical shaft mounting must therefore never be
used.
Take care to mount a lockable safety switch (Isolator)
for the Multicutter to ensure that it cannot be started by
accident – e.g. during repair and maintenance.
Safety switch
The Multicutter is designed for indoor installation being
protected against moisture.
The Multicutter should be mounted in an accessible
location for maintenance.
