These Instructions for Use (text and diagrams) explain the only correct uses of this
product.
The warnings provide information on common misuses of this product, but it
is impossible to imagine or describe all possible misuses. Check Petzl.com for
updates and additional information.
You are responsible for heeding each warning and using your equipment correctly.
Failure to follow these Instructions for Use exactly may result in serious injury or
death. Contact Petzl if you have any doubts or difficulty understanding these
Instructions for Use.
1. Field of application
Personal protective equipment (PPE) used for fall protection from height.
Progress-capture pulley.
This product must not be pushed beyond its limits, nor be used for any purpose
other than that for which it is designed.
Responsibility
WARNING
Activities involving the use of this equipment are inherently dangerous.
You are responsible for your actions, your decisions and your safety and you
assume the consequences of same.
Before using this equipment, you must:
- Read and understand all Instructions for Use for this product, and for any
equipment used with it.
- Get specific training in the use of this product and associated equipment and in
managing the risks of the intended activities.
- Become acquainted with its capabilities and limitations.
- Understand and accept the risks involved.
Failure to follow all instructions and warnings may result in serious injury
or death.
This product must only be used by competent and responsible persons, or those
placed under the direct and visual control of a competent and responsible person.
You are responsible for your actions, your decisions and your safety and you
assume the consequences of same. If you are not able, or not in a position to
assume this responsibility, or if you do not fully understand the Instructions for Use,
do not use this equipment.
2. Nomenclature
(1) Sheave, (2) Button for blocking the cam, (3) Cam, (4) Axle, (5) Moving side plate,
(6) Side plate unlocking button, (7) Cover, (8) Attachment hole, (9) Cord hole.
Principal materials: aluminum, stainless steel, nylon.
3. Inspection, points to verify
Your safety depends upon the integrity of your equipment.
Petzl recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every
12 months (depending on current regulations in your country, and your conditions
of usage).
WARNING: your intensity of use may cause you to inspect your PPE more
frequently.
Follow the procedures described at Petzl.com. Record the results on your PPE
inspection form: type, model, manufacturer contact info, serial number or individual
number, dates: manufacture, purchase, first use, next periodic inspection; problems,
comments, inspector's name and signature.
Before each use
Verify the absence of any deformation, cracks, marks, wear or corrosion on the
product.
Check the condition of the locking system for the moving side plate and verify that
it is working properly.
Check the condition of the sheave and verify that it is working properly.
Check the mobility of the cam and the effectiveness of its spring. WARNING: do not
use your MINI TRAXION if it has missing or worn-out teeth. Verify the absence of
foreign objects in the mechanism.
During use
It is important to regularly monitor the condition of the product and its connections
to the other equipment in the system. Make sure that all items of equipment are
correctly positioned with respect to each other.
Beware of foreign bodies (e.g. mud, snow, ice or debris) which can impede the
operation of the cam.
WARNING: blocking effectiveness and pulley efficiency can vary depending on the
condition of the rope (particularly with wear, moisture or ice).
4. Compatibility
Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the system in your
application (compatible = good functional interaction).
Equipment used with your progress-capture pulley must meet current standards in
your country (e.g. EN 362 carabiners).
Ropes
The MINI TRAXION is compatible and certified with 7-11 mm diameter EN 892
dynamic kernmantle ropes.
The MINI TRAXION is compatible and certified with 8.5-11 mm diameter EN 1891
low stretch kernmantle ropes.
Cords
The MINI TRAXION is compatible and certified with 8 mm diameter EN 564 cords.

HMPE cords
The MINI TRAXION is compatible and certified only with RAD LINE cord.
When using the hyperstatic RAD LINE cord, care must be taken to minimize any
slack and/or fall risk. See the RAD LINE and RAD SYSTEM's Instructions for Use.
Attachment hole
Compatible with carabiners or ropes.
WARNING: prolonged use with a connector can create wear and sharp edges that
are dangerous if the attachment hole is then used with a rope.
5. Function principle and test
The MINI TRAXION allows the rope to run in one direction, and blocks in the other
direction. The cam's teeth initiate the clamping action, then the rope is blocked by
being pinched against the sheave.
With the cam deactivated, the MINI TRAXION can be used as a pulley only.
6. Installing the MINI TRAXION
The pulley must be able to move freely so that it can align naturally with the loaded
rope. Beware of any external object rubbing against the unlocking button.
WARNING: if the red indicator on the unlocking button is visible, or if the red
indicator on the sheave is visible, the side plate is not locked: there is a risk of
accidental opening.
7. Specifications
Working load limit - progress-capture pulley: 2.5 kN.
Working load limit - pulley: 5 kN.
Breaking strength in progress-capture mode: the rope tears at 4 kN (ropes greater
than 7 mm in diameter) or 5 kN (ropes greater than 10 mm in diameter and RAD
LINE).
Breaking strength: 20 kN.
Hauling efficiency: F = 1.07 M.
Efficiency: 93 %.
Efficiency is measured with a rope of the minimum diameter compatible with the
device.
8. Deactivating the cam
WARNING: deactivating the progress-capture function presents a fall risk for the
load.
Deactivating the progress-capture function:
To deactivate the progress-capture function, raise the cam and press the button.
Release the button to hold the cam in the raised position.
Reactivating the progress-capture function:
To reactivate the progress-capture function, press the button again.
TECHNICAL NOTICE MINI TRAXION
Temporary deactivation with a cord:
Pass a cord through the cord hole, then through the hole in the cam, and then tie
a stopper knot. WARNING: the end of the cord exiting the stopper knot must be
very short, so as not to interfere with the functioning of the cam. There is a risk of it
not blocking if the cord gets caught between the cam and the rope.
9. Precautions
To reduce the risk of a free fall, the rope between the progress-capture pulley and
the load must always stay taut. Shock loading must absolutely be avoided when
close to the anchor.
Do not use a progress-capture pulley if a high load is foreseeable, for example to
anchor a rope or a lifeline, or to tension a tyrolean: there is a risk of tearing the rope
if the load on the rope is too high.
10. EN 12841: 2006 type B - Rope access
The MINI TRAXION must be used with a type A backup device on a second
(safety) rope.
The MINI TRAXION is not suitable for use in a fall-arrest system.
To meet the requirements of the EN 12841: 2006 type B standard, use 10-11 mm
EN 1891 type A low stretch kernmantle ropes. (Note: Certification testing was
performed using Petzl CLUB 10 mm and Petzl AXIS 11 mm ropes.)
Use a connecting assembly of maximum length 1 meter (lanyard + connectors
+ devices).
Regardless of the angle of the rope, do not allow slack in the rope between the
rope adjuster and the anchor, in order to reduce the risk of a fall.
When your body weight is on the work rope, make sure that the safety rope is
not loaded.
A dynamic overload can damage the safety rope.
Nominal maximum load: 100 kg.
11. Additional information
This product meets the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal
protective equipment. The EU declaration of conformity is available at Petzl.com.
- You must have a rescue plan and the means to rapidly implement it in case of
difficulties encountered while using this equipment.
- The anchor point for the system should preferably be located above the user's
position and meet EN 795 requirements (12 kN minimum strength).
- It is essential to check the required clearance below the user before each use, in
order to avoid hitting the ground or an obstacle in the event of a fall.
- Make sure that the anchor point is correctly positioned, in order to limit the risk
and the length of a fall.
- A fall-arrest harness is the only device allowable for supporting the body in a
fall-arrest system.
- When using multiple items of equipment, a dangerous situation can arise in which
the safety function of an item of equipment can be affected by the safety function
of another item of equipment.
- WARNING - DANGER: ensure that your products do not rub against abrasive or
sharp surfaces.
- Users must be medically fit for activities at height. WARNING: inert suspension in
a harness can result in serious injury or death.
- The Instructions for Use for each item of equipment used in conjunction with this
product must be followed.
- The Instructions for Use must be provided to the user of this equipment, in the
language of the country where the equipment is used.
- Keep the Instructions for Use in a permanent file for reference after removing
them from the equipment.
- Make sure the markings on the product are legible.
When to retire this product:
WARNING: an exceptional event can lead you to retire a product after only one
use (depending on the type and intensity of usage, and the environment of usage,
for example: harsh environments, marine environments, sharp edges, extreme
temperatures, chemicals).
A product must be retired when:
- It has exceeded its lifespan.
- It has been subjected to a major fall or load.
- It fails to pass inspection. You have any doubt as to its reliability.
- You do not know its full usage history (e.g. an illegible product marking).
- It becomes obsolete (for example, due to changes in legislation, standards,
technique or incompatibility with other equipment).
Destroy these products to prevent further use.

3-year guarantee
Against any material or manufacturing defect. Exclusions: normal wear and tear,
oxidation, modifications or alterations, incorrect storage, poor maintenance,
negligence, uses for which this product is not designed.
