Do not place the RCS High Flow Touch Microbial
Air Sampler on an unstable table, cart, stand, tripod
or bracket. As a consequence, the instrument might
fall down. This may cause bodily harm and/or serious
damage to the instrument. Use only a stand or
tripod recommended by Merck, or is sold with the
instrument.
Air circulation
The instrument should not be placed next to equip-
ment that produces heat. Prevent direct exposure
to sunlight. Openings should never be blocked or
covered during operation. Never push a foreign ob-
ject through an opening into the instrument.
Water and moisture
Do not use the instrument in a wet or damp loca-
tion. Avoid humidity or condensation higher then
specified. Protect the device against water splashes.
II.3 Power Sources
and Peripheral Devices
The instrument is supplied with a suitable power
supply and a country-specific power cord containing
a three-wire electrical grounding-type plug that
has a third pin for grounding. This plug only fits in-
to a grounded power outlet. This is a safety feature.
Do not try to insert the plug into a non-grounded
power outlet. If you cannot insert the plug into the
outlet contact your local electrician to replace the
outlet.
Power sources
The instrument should only be operated from
a power source indicated on the products' electrical
rating label (type plate). Use power supply units
recommended by the supplier. Please use the power
cord delivered by Merck or a power cord that is
compatible with local requirements. If you have
questions about the type of power source to be used,
contact your authorized Customer Service or local
power company.

Make sure that the connection for the power cord
is easily accessible and located as close to the
operator as possible. When disconnecting the power
supply unplug the cable from the power outlet.
Extension cord
If an extension cord or power strip is used, make
sure that the cable or strip is rated for the instru-
ment and that the total ampere ratings of all ob-
jects plugged into the extension cord or power strip
do not exceed 80% of the extension cord or strip
ampere rating limit.
II.4 Secure Operation and Service
Do not obstruct the movement of the rotor during
operation. Keep fingers, etc. away while the rotor is
in operation in order to avoid crushing and shearing
injuries or damage to the device. Do not try to
remove the protection cap while the instrument is
in operation. Always stop or abort the procedure
before handling the rotor. Do not circumvent any
safety measures.
Secure operation
Secure operation is no longer possible if any of the
following damage occurs. Immediately switch off
the RCS
unplug the instrument from electrical outlet, and
contact your authorized local service provider.
Use of a damaged instrument or a damaged power
cord is expressly prohibited.
WARNING
Do not use the instrument if one or more of the
following incidents occur:
• Damage to housing, power supply, power cord,
• Spillage of liquids into the interior of the device,
• Entry of an object into the openings of the
