Activate the parking brakes (see section 716)
Position yourself behind the ECONOMY
Pull the spring-loaded catch outwards, then swivel
the support rollers 90° upwards until the small
wheel faces upwards
The spring-loaded catch locks automatically in this
position
Release the parking brake as described
in section 716
Follow the same procedure for swiveling back
into the original position
Note!
Always make sure that both support
rollers are pointing in the same
direction That is the only way how an
effective stabilisation can be ensured!
Support rollers swivel away by foot pressure
Should you wish to extend the support rollers,
please also make sure that the adjustment is
identical on the left and right sides

7.1.6. Dual rear-wheel drum brakes

SIMPLY
is equipped with two independently operat-
®
ing drum parking brakes These act on the two rear
wheels The brake levers are equipped with a three-
notch system enabling three different braking levels
Applying the parking brake
In order to apply the parking brake, proceed as follows:
Squeeze both brake levers on the handle (Fig 12)
Ensure that the brake handle does not return to
its initial position (the lock engages audibly); only
then, the parking brake is correctly applied
Check the braking effect by trying to push the
SIMPLY

®
Caution!
If the braking action is insufficient, have
the brake adjusted by a specialist work-
shop or adjust the brake yourself as described
below
You can also use the parking brake to make brak-
ing easier when going downhill In this case, pull
the brake to the first or second notch position
Releasing the parking brake
To release the parking brake, proceed as follows:
Release the lock by operating the notch lever and
allow the brake lever to slide into its original posi-
tion In some cases, tension on the notch lever
must be relieved by slightly pulling the brake lever
before it is possible to release the brake
Adjusting the parking brake
Tool: Size 8 spanner
Prerequisite: Insufficient braking power of the parking
brake: SIMPLY
can be pushed even though the parking

brake is applied
To adjust the parking brake, proceed as follows:
Make sure that the parking brake is not applied; if
necessary, release the parking brake
(see section 716)

SETTINGS / OPERATION

®
The Bowden cables of the parking brakes are
routed through an adjusting bolt before the brake
backing plates, which allows an adjustment of the
braking power
By turning this bolt anti-clockwise, the brake cable
is brought under greater tension, pre-tensioning
the brake The adjusting bolt is secured by a nut
Before adjusting the brake, release the securing
nut by turning it to the left (depending on the ver-
sion, a size 6 spanner may be required)
Next, turn the adjusting bolt anti-clockwise until
it becomes more difficult to turn the wheel To
check, lift the SIMPLY
respective wheel with your other hand
Then, turn the adjusting bolt clockwise until the
wheel which has to be adjusted runs freely again
Turn the counter nut located on the thread of the
adjusting nut clockwise as far as it will go
If necessary, repeat the procedure for the other
wheel
Advice!
In order to check the adjustment of the
brake, pull the brake lever several times
before finally fastening the counter nut If neces-
sary, you have to repeat this operation, as some
experience is required to carry out the adjust-
ment

7.1.7. Checking the tyre pressure

SIMPLY
der to keep rolling resistance to an absolute minimum,
you should check the tyre pressure at regular intervals
The tyres are standardly equipped with automobile
valves, so you can check the pressure by using the tyre
gauge at your local petrol station The required filling
pressure is printed on the tyres and is also specified
in the "technical data" section of these instructions
To check the tyre pressure, please proceed as follows:
Apply the parking brake (see section 716)
Unscrew the valve cap from the valve by turning it
anti-clockwise
Press the tyre gauge nozzle firmly onto the valve
Correct the tyre pressure to the specified value
Remove the tyre gauge nozzle from the valve
Screw the valve cap onto the thread of the valve
(clockwise)
Repeat the operation until you have checked all
tyres
If necessary, release the parking brake
(see section 716)
