e) Setting the servo saver
The steering of the vehicle is designed as Ackermann
steering. The movement of the steering servo acts via a
servo rod on the servo saver.
The servo saver consists of two parts rotating against each
other, which are not rigidly connected to each other, but can
be moved over an inclined surface against each other. A
spring compresses these two rotating parts together.
If hard shocks are transferred to the steering mechanism
via the wheels during operation of the vehicle, they are
not transferred directly to the steering servo, but rather
absorbed by the spring connection of the two parts of the
servo saver.
The action of the servo saver can be adjusted with a knurled-head screw (A).
It serves to change the contact pressure of the servo saver spring so that the two parts of the servo saver can turn
harder or softer against each other.
The manufacturer has already chosen an optimal setting for the servo saver. So you do not normally need
to change the setting.
If the setting is too gentle, even slight shocks to the wheel will cause the two parts of the servo saver to turn;
this will adversely affect the steering accuracy and directional stability when operating the vehicle.
Setting it too hard can cause the servo gear to be damaged, because shocks to the wheels will be
transferred to the servo without being absorbed.
