3. Acquiring PANO Images

Patient Positioning

3.2
Positioning the patient is a key step to acquire clear images. Accurate position reduces
the shadows cast by the patient's cervical spine ('neck bone'), image distortions, and
prevents accidents that induce injuries or property damages. Read this section to learn
how to position the patient for each imaging mode.
Prepare the patient and the equipment as below:
Ask the patient to remove all metal objects from their body (i.e. glasses, earrings,
1.
hairpins, braces, or other objects that may contain the metal). The metal object
can induce ghosts that lower the image quality.
Cover the patient with a radiation shield such as a lead apron.
2.
Press the Column UP/DOWN Button on the control panel or CEPH unit to adjust
3.
the Column's height for the patient. You can also use the Column UP/Down switch
is provided as an option.
22
Cover the patient with the radiation shield before the X-
ray exposure. Children and pregnant women must wear
protective drapes or lead aprons to shield themselves
from the radiation.
Accurate patient positioning reduces the shadows cast
by the patient's cervical spine and helps to obtain a clear
image.
Metal implants or bridges may reduce the quality of the
images.
