Before Printing

Before using the printer the first time, confirm that you
have all of the accessories, and assemble them as
described on page 7.
After connecting the printer as described on page 9,
follow the steps below to prepare for actual printing.
• Install the ink ribbon cartridge (described next).
• Load the paper (page 11).
These steps are not required every time you print, but
only as occasion demands.

Installing the Ink Ribbon Cartridge

The ink ribbon cartridge consists of the supplied ink
ribbon holder with ink ribbon installed. This procedure
describes how to install the ribbon into its holder, and
then how to install the Ink Ribbon Cartridge into the
printer.
The supplied ink ribbon holder can be used with any
standard ribbon designed for this printer.
Before installing the ribbon into its holder, confirm that
the type of ribbon corresponds with the type of paper to
be used (page 25).

Pull the top of the front door to open it.

Press the EJECT button to remove the Ink Ribbon
Cartridge.
Skip this step when using the printer the first time.
Note
Do not touch the inside of the Ink Ribbon Cartridge
installation slot. The print head inside may be hot.
10 Before Printing
If the Ink Ribbon Cartridge cannot be
removed
Turn the power off and back on, and after waiting a
short time, press the EJECT button again.
Note
When the power is turned off, any images stored in
the printer memory are erased. You will need to
send the image data gain to printer memory before
printing again.

Remove the used ribbon from the holder.

Install the new ribbon into the holder.

Take up the slack in the ribbon.
The ribbon can be damaged if installed with slack.

take-up side.
2 Set the take-up side
of the ink ribbon.

Turn the spools
alternately as
necessary to remove
the slack while having
the start position mark
facing upwards.
