Page 3 of the notification dated 23 June 2008 regarding the amendment to the General Construction Inspection
Approval No. Z-40.11-280 dated 30 January 2001
Section 2.1 (Properties and Composition) is supplemented with Sections 2.1.5 and 2.1.6:
2.1.5
Leak detection
The external wall of the tank is translucent. Leaks in the internal wall can thus be detected quickly and
reliably. Fluids penetrating the monitoring chamber will be completely contained. The tanks thus comply
with Requirement R
specialist companies (VAwS).
2.1.6
Leak detection
Tanks on which a leak indicator is connected to the monitoring chamber also meet Requirement R
as per the German ordinance regarding the handling of substances hazardous to water and specialist
companies (VAwS).
Paragraph (2) of Section 3 (Design and Dimensioning Stipulations) is replaced by the following paragraph:
(2) When defining the installation specifications, it is to be assumed that the tanks are designed in
accordance with this notification to withstand the effects of fire for a duration of 30 minutes.
Paragraphs (3) and (4) of Section 5.1.1 (Tank Equipment) are replaced by the following paragraphs:
(3) If a leak indicator is connected, the connection for the measuring line must be provided at the highest
point of the monitoring chamber (see Appendix 1.2).
(4) If a low-vacuum leak indicator is used (alarm triggered at the latest at -30 mbar), the connection for
the suction line is located on the tank cover. In this case, the suction line must be laid to the lowest point
of the monitoring chamber (see Appendix 1.3). In the case of tank systems as specified in Paragraph (7),
the use of low-vacuum leak detectors is permitted only if the difference between the alarm trigger point
and the operating negative pressure of the leak detector amounts to 45 mbar at most.
(5) If a high-vacuum leak indicator is used (alarm triggered at the latest at -325 mbar), the connection for
the suction line is located on the tank cover. A connection to the lowest point of the monitoring chamber
is not required if a high-vacuum leak detector is used.
(6) The installation of the leak indicator in accordance with Paragraph (4) or Paragraph (5) and the
connection to the monitoring chambers in tank systems must be performed in accordance with the
General Construction Inspection Approval issued for the leak indicator.
(7) When used to store EL-grade heating oil and diesel fuel, the tanks may be connected to form a tank
system with up to 5 tanks of the same size in a row or hydro-mechanically unbranched in two rows
(block set-up). To do this, the tanks must be equipped with the filling system made of plastic and steel,
Type „C-B 3" made by Chemowerk GmbH and the non-communicating emptying system Type „WK II" or
„WK IV" made by Wilhelm Keller GmbH & Co. KG. When the tanks are set up in a row (not block set-up),
the non-communicating emptying system Type „C-A 4" may also be used. The standard DIN 4755
Serial. No. 15.41 of the Building Regulations List A, Part 1, Filling and Removal System apply to the
emptying system and are not part of this General Construction Inspection Approval.
