7. Charging the batteries

a) Charging the vehicle battery pack
• The model is delivered without a rechargeable battery pack. It must be purchased separately. You can chose whether
you want to use a low-cost battery pack for beginners or a high-quality professional battery pack with a high capacity.
• The rechargeable battery pack is usually empty upon delivery and must be charged.
• Before the rechargeable battery pack reaches maximum capacity, several complete discharge and charge cycles
are necessary.
• Always use up a NiCd battery pack completely as recharging a "half-full" battery pack repeatedly can cause the so-
called memory effect. This means that the rechargeable battery pack loses its capacity and no longer provides
maximum energy. This reduces operating time.
With NiMH technology, this effect is far weaker and recharging partially discharged rechargeable batteries is less
problematic.
• High-quality rechargeable batteries have higher capacity, which allows you to drive your model vehicle much longer,
and they provide a higher output voltage under load. This provides the motor with more power and results in better
acceleration and higher speed.
• If you use several rechargeable batteries or battery packs, purchasing a high-quality charger may be worthwhile.
Such a charger usually has a quick-charging feature.
• Rechargeable batteries heat up when charged or discharged (driving the vehicle). Wait until the rechargeable batteries
have reached room temperature before charging them. The same applies after the charging procedure. Do not use
the rechargeable batteries in the vehicle until they have cooled down sufficiently after the charging process.
b) Charging rechargeable batteries in the transmitter
It is possible that the provided transmitter does not have a charging socket. In this case, remove the
inserted batteries and charge them externally.
If your transmitter has a charging socket, check whether rechargeable batteries are actually inserted in the
transmitter before connecting the charger. When charging normal (non-rechargeable) batteries, there is a
risk of fire and explosion!
• We recommend not charging rechargeable batteries directly in the transmitter but with a high-quality charger for
individual cells instead.
• Rechargeable batteries in the transmitter must not be quick-charged as this damages the transmitter and heats up
the cells in the transmitter excessively. Depending on the batteries used, we recommend a maximum charge current
of 200-300 mA. Please note the label on the charging socket or the type plate.
• Only use a charger designed for 8 AA batteries and the corresponding battery type (NiCd, NiMH).
