CAUTION
Incorrect or excessively tight application
Risk of local pressure and constriction of blood vessels and nerves due to improper or exces-
sively tight application
„ Ensure that the orthosis is applied properly and fits correctly.
INFORMATION
„ The daily duration of use and period of application are generally determined by the physician.
„ The initial fitting and application of the product must be carried out by qualified personnel
according to the instructions of the treating physician.
„ Instruct the patient in the handling and care of the product.
„ Instruct the patient to see a physician immediately if any exceptional changes are noted
(e.g. worsening of the complaint).
6 Fitting the orthosis
We recommend shaping the metal components simply by bending by hand. Otherwise, only round
edged bending irons should be used. Be careful not to bend the slot and guide area in the uprights
and base plate.
To adjust length, loosen the screws (fig. 3) and position the supports and base plate.
For short trunks, if the slot adjustment is not sufficient it may be necessary to shorten the abdominal
upright (fig. 4).
Further, a short 29R138=200 Sternal Upright and a long 29R138=350 Sternal Upright are avail-
able as accessory.
To exchange the sternal upright, the three screws of the base plate must be removed and the sternal
support repositioned (fig. 2+3). After the adjustment in length, be sure to tighten the screws of the
symphysis pubis support. Reduce the padding of the lumbar support at the stamped cutting edges
to the desired circumference.
With the orthosis placed on the patient, perform the following checks:
„ Pressure, placement and fit of the three supports
„ Proper tension and fit of the waistband and base plate
„ Fit and hyperextension effect in the sitting position.
The orthosis can be easily applied and removed by means of the ratchet closures (fig. 5). The lock
positioners (arrow) also serve as an orientation aid for the correct adjustment of the waistband.
INFORMATION
During the first trial fitting, it is of particular importance to make sure that the waistband engages
in the ratchet closure to prevent the waistband from slipping off under load.
