Operational characteristics

Before entering the workplace

Before any safety-relevant measurements, check the
calibration using a bump test, adjust if necessary and check
all alarm elements. If national regulations apply, the bump test
must be conducted in line with these regulations. An incorrect
calibration can result in incorrect measurements that could
cause serious health issues.
In case of measurements in oxygen-deficient atmosphere
(<12 Vol.-% O ) the CatEx sensor may show incorrect

displays; in this case, a reliable measurement with a CatEx
sensor is not possible.
The measuring range from 0 to 100 vol% CH4 is not suitable
for monitoring explosive mixtures in a measuring range of 0
to 100 %LEL.
When using the device, the user must ensure that the specified

operating conditions are observed.
Before using the gas warning device, the user should check that

the times set in the device, particularly with respect to the sensors
being used, are sufficiently short to ensure that warnings are
generated by the device in good time to prevent hazardous
situations from occurring. If necessary, the alarm threshold must
be set considerably below (or, in the case of oxygen, above) the
limit value required for safety.
For O concentrations below 12 vol%, an error is displayed on the


Before using the instrument for the first time

If necessary:
Mount the enclosed sensors (see "Changing sensors" in the

Dräger X-am 7000" Technical Manual).

The device may either be equipped with a DrägerSensor XS
Cl or with a DrägerSensor XS CO
2

equipped with two sensors of the type XS Cl

combined with all other gas sensors. If these requirements
are not complied with, the device will lose its explosion
protection.
Install the alkaline batteries in the alkaline power pack, see page 52

and mount the power pack on the measuring unit, see the "Dräger
X-am 7000 Technical Manual".
If the NiMH power pack is exhausted because it has been stored
for a long time:
Fully charge the power pack, page 49.

The factory-installed sensors and the current alarm threshold settings
are displayed:
see "Switching on", page 41.
Determine the calibration state of the instrument by exposing it to

zero gas and test gas.
If necessary, adjust the instrument (see EN 60079-29-2,
EN 45544-4 and national regulations
