Safety Instructions

The instrument may only be used in mixtures of flammable gases and
vapours with air. It may not be used in oxygen-enriched atmospheres
(>21 Vol.-% O
).

Behaviour in case of measurement range exceedance 100 %LEL:
In case the measurement range at the CatEx channel is exceeded
significantly (very high concentration of inflammable substances),
a blocking alarm is triggered (for outline of the blocking alarm, see
page 43). The blocking alarm can be acknowledged manually by
switching the device off and back on again in fresh air (free of
flammable gases and vapours).
WARNING
!
When using a CatEx sensor in the Dräger X-am 7000, the
zero point and sensitivity must be adjusted after any extreme
impact loading causing the display to deviate from zero in
fresh air.
Special care should be taken for example when using the
instrument in the vicinity of ethine/oxygen welding work
(ethine = acetylene). If a non-burning ethine jet enriched with
oxygen is directed at the DrägerSensor Smart CatEx,
uncontrolled ignition may result.

The measuring principle of heat of reaction needs a minimum oxygen
concentration of 12 Vol.-%, otherwise the measuring values will be too
low because of oxygen deficiency (see "Before entering the
workplace" on page 39).
In case of accidental impact or drop, inspect instrument visually.
If instrument is damaged, disconnect battery pack and leave
hazardous area immediately.

For instruments equipped with the DrägerSensor CatEx:
The instrument may only be used in mixtures of flammable
gases or vapours with air. It may not be used in oxygen-
enriched atmospheres.
In case of measurements in oxygen-deficient atmosphere
(<12 Vol.-% O
) the CatEx sensor may show incorrect

displays; in this case, a reliable measurement with a CatEx
sensor is not possible.
The measuring range from 0 to 100 vol% CH4 is not suitable
for monitoring explosive mixtures in a measuring range of 0
to 100 %LEL.
