3.2 Adjusting Tension of the Extension Assist
The extension assist facilitates extension movement during swing phase. The knee joint has
been factory-set to maximum tension, so that, when performing first trial walking, the joint will
safely come into contact with the extension stop. By loosening the adjustment screw, tension can
be reduced (fig. 4).

4 Maintenance Instructions

After the knee joint has been worn for several weeks as well as every 3 months at least, Otto
Bock recommends to inspect the knee joint and make any necessary adjustments. Particular at-
tention must be paid to the resistances to movement and abnormal noises. It must be ensured
that full extension is reached.
During each maintenance of the prosthesis, the 4Z75=8x10 Extension Stop Bumper should
be replaced (available as single component). Use 617H46 silicone bonding agent to glue the
extension stop bumper in the upper section.
Do not disassemble the knee joint! In case of any problems, please return the entire knee
joint to Otto Bock.
Attention – Please inform your patients!
The knee joint function may be affected by both environmental and service conditions.
To reduce risk for the patient, the knee joint should not be used when noticeable func-
tional changes occur. Noticeable functional changes may include poor response, in-
complete extension, diminished swing phase control or stance phase stability, abnormal
noises, etc.
Action to be taken
Have the prosthesis examined at a specialist workshop.
When using the knee joint do not reach into the joint mechanism since there is the
risk of injury.
Attention
To eliminate noise in the cosmetic foam cover, use 519L5 Silicone Spray. Do not use
talcum powder! Talcum powder reduces the lubrication of the mechanical parts, which
may lead to a malfunction and thus increase the risk of falling. Using this medical product
after application of talcum powder will render all claims against Otto Bock HealthCare
null and void.
Apply 519L5 Silicone Spray directly on the friction surfaces of the cosmetic foam cover!
