Notes on Safety

• This measuring device may only be used with circuits which are 16 A-protected or
in which voltages are not in excess of 250 VDC/VACrms or where outputs in excess
of 4000 VA may occur. The measuring device may not be used in installations of
Overvoltage Category III to IEC 664. The measuring device and the measuring
leads are not protected against electric arc explosions (IEC 1010-2-031, Section
13.101)
• Measuring devices and equipment should be kept away from children
• In the workplace, the accident prevention measures of the Association of Employ-
er's Liability Insurance for electrical plant and operating material must be observed
• In schools, training centers, hobby and self-help workshops, the operation of mea-
suring devices must be responsibly supervised by trained personnel
• The measuring device is a Bench Multimeter and is a Protection Class 1 device.
The device is fitted with a VDE-tested mains cable including a ground conductor
and may therefore only be connected or operated from 230 V AC mains supply
including ground protection. Please make sure that the ground conductor (yel-
low/green) is fully intact both in the mains cable and in the device. A faulty ground
conductor is a potentially lethal hazard. Please also make sure that the insulation
does not become damaged in any way
• Before switching the measuring device on and before any connection to the mains
socket, check the setting of the voltage selection switch on the back panel of the
housing. Make sure that the voltage selected is correct (Germany: 230 V) and that
the mains fuse is appropriate (0.25 A fast-blow type, 250 V)
• Please take special care when handling voltages in excess of 25 VAC or 35 VDC.
Even at these voltages, contact with electric cables can give a potentially lethal
electrical shock.
Therefore, start by adjusting the voltage source so that there is no current. Connect
the measuring device to the connecting points of the voltage source under test.
Adjust the measuring device to the voltage measurement range required and then
switch the voltage source on.
After completing the measurement, adjust the voltage source so that there is no
current and remove the measuring leads from the connecting points of the voltage
source
• Before measuring voltage, check that the measuring device is not adjusted for
measuring current
6
• Before readjusting to a different kind of measurement (e.g. current or voltage),
check that the measuring probes are not in contact with the object under test
• Ahead of each measurement, check your measuring device and leads for damage
• When measuring, use only the leads supplied with the device. No other leads are
permitted
• To avoid electric shocks, make sure that the measuring probes and the points at
which you are measuring (measurement points) do not come into contact, even
indirectly, while you are measuring
• The voltage across the V/Ohm socket of the device and ground must not exceed
500 VDC/VACrms
• Do not operate the measuring device in rooms or under adverse ambient conditi-
ons in which combustible gases or dust may be present. For your own personal
safety, make sure that the measuring devices/measuring leads are not exposed to
damp or wet. Do not operate in the immediate vicinity of
strong magnetic fields (loudspeakers, magnets)
electromagnetic fields (transformers, motors, coils, relays, reactors, electro-
magnets, etc.)
electrostatic fields (charging/discharging)
transmission antennae or HF generators
• If there are reasons for supposing that risk-free operation is no longer possible, the
unit must be disabled and safetied against accidental operation. Risk-free operati-
on can no longer be supposed, when the equipment
is visibly damaged
no longer functions
has been stored long-term under adverse conditions
has been exposed to strong vibrations during transport
• Never turn the measuring device on immediately after transferring it from a cold
environment to a warm environment. Condensation can cause irreparable damage
to your equipment. Allow your device to acclimatize to the temperature of the room
before you switch it on
