d) Setting the exponential function (EXP)
Using the exponential function, you have the option of changing the
servo movements in the area of the centre position. Without the
exponential function, the servo reacts to the steering movements
proportionally or linearly (see dotted line in graphic A and B).
If, as shown in graphic A, a positive exponential rate is selected, a
minimal movement of the control element (STICK) on the transmitter
is sufficient to cause a strong movement on the relevant servo in the
area of the centre position. For example, you can set the throttle pickup
for a model with combustion engine or the acceleration of an electronic
model with electronic drive control much more aggressive.
If, as shown in graphic B, a negative exponential rate is set, the servo
in the area of the centre position does not react as sensitively to the
movements of the control element (STICK). This function is usually
set for the steering servo. It allows you to still steer the model sensitively
in a straight direction at maximum speed, even if a very large possible
steering turn was selected.
In either case, the maximum possible end turn of the servo that was set using the EPA setting is not
affected!
