5.17. Drum brake (optional)
The wheelchair can be optionally equipped with a drum brake that
can only be operated by an attendant via the brake levers on the push
handles (Fig. 29/1).
The drum brake can be locked for parking by means of the locks on both
brake levers (Fig. 29/2).
Adjusting the drum brake
The basic adjustment of the drum brake is made at the cable clamping
screw. The fine adjustment is made via the adjusting nut on the brake
cable. If the adjusting nut is turned up, the braking effect increases
(Fig. 30).
•
The drum brakes only act on one drive wheel at a time!
•
Drum brakes are also subject to natural wear. If the braking effect
decreases, the wheelchair must no longer be operated. To avoid this, for
your own safety, you should check the brake system for proper functioning
before every journey!
•
After completing the adjustment process, tighten all screws and carry
out a brake test!
The adjustment on the brakes may only be carried
out by trained specialists. Bear in mind that
incorrectly adjusted brakes can have lifethreatening
consequences.
