It should be ensured that the 2 ml reservoir (NBSS & ABSS) of a pressure monitoring set is completely fi lled during blood
sampling, since this is the only way to ensure that undiluted blood samples can be taken for a blood gas analysis. It is not
necessary to completely fi ll a 6 ml reservoir (NBSS

volume before the blood sampling using the scale on the 6 ml reservoir for the blood gas analysis. A blood sample diluted with
saline solution leads to invalid blood analysis results. For coagulation diagnostics, more mixing volume may need to be removed
from the pressure monitoring set before blood sampling.
If the control knob of a reservoir is turned too far, it can damage the threaded rod and thus make the entire component
permanently unusable. A predetermined breaking point on the threaded rod protects the housing from excessive force in order

to maintain the leak-tightness of the system at all times. The control knob of a reservoir must only be opened and closed gently
and until noticeable resistance is felt.
The SWAN switch 4-way stopcock must not be punctured with needles or cannulae, as this may damage the valve and

cause ingress/leakage of liquids, air and/or pathogens. Only use blood sampling containers or adapters with a Luer inter-
face manufactured in accordance with the applicable standards and which is CE marked.
To ensure correct use of the SWAN Switch 4-way stopcock, only blood sampling containers and adapters manufactured in
accordance with the applicable standards and which are CE marked may be connected at the side port. Lockable Luer lock

systems are recommended for this application. When using Luer slip systems, it must be ensured that they are connected
to the side port very carefully, twisting by 90°. Inserting Luer slip systems into the valve on the side port without twisting
may damage the valve.
