Patient connection
Before using the pressure monitoring set on a patient, make sure that all the vented protective caps have been disposed

of and replaced with non-vented protective caps (see section 4.4, page 44 – Consumables). Vented protective caps
may allow the ingress/leakage of liquids, air and/or pathogens.
Connecting a pressure monitoring set to an unsecured patient access port can lead to uncontrolled bleeding, a severe

drop in blood pressure and the need for a blood transfusion. Before connecting a pressure monitoring set, make sure that
the patient access port is closed to prevent uncontrolled bleeding and to guarantee safe initial use.

Before transporting or repositioning the patient, the roller/sliding clamps of the fi lling and fl ush system should be closed,

since otherwise air can get into the patient's circulatory system via the tubing system and this can lead to an embolism. The
user must ensure that the entire pressure monitoring set is free of air pockets for the duration of its use.
Depending on the confi guration of the pressure monitoring set and the therapy of the patient's individual medical condition/disease,

the pressure monitoring set can be connected to one or more vascular access ports in different regions of the body (see section 3.7,
page 40 – Type and duration of intended physical contact).

Zero calibration
For correct zero calibration, follow the instructions below.

At the start of a shift, after every change in the positioning height of the pressure transducer or patient, and after any

interruption in signal transmission between pressure transducer and control monitor (e.g. due to a power failure or change
of electrical accessory), another zero calibration must be performed to ensure accurate pressure monitoring.
If, during zero calibration, saline solution leaks from the lateral duct of the 3-way zeroing stopcock without the fl ush
system being operated, the pressure monitoring set must be inspected and replaced with a new one if required because

this is indicative of uncontrolled fl ushing due to a defective fl ush system (see section 19, page 63 – Replacing the
pressure monitoring set/sterile accessories).
