Attention!
Even if you do not use your wheelchair for any length of time, it is
recommended to regularly charge the batteries (approx. once every
three weeks) to make sure that the battery capacity is not diminished.
3.4.1

Replacing the batteries

Make sure your wheelchair is switched off.
Loosen the two knobs on the battery tray and slide the tray out (for the location of the
battery tray, see Figure 1).
Remark: while the battery tray is pulled out, the wheelchair is automatically without
power!
Disconnect the electric connections by pulling the terminals up, see Figure 23 . You
do not need any tools to do this.
Exchange the battery.
Connect everything in reverse order to the procedure described above. For the
connection diagram, see "Other indications" op pagina 40 and the inside of the
battery-tray cover.
The use of wet batteries is not permitted.
The batteries weigh 24 kg. Use the hand grips to pick up the batteries.
3.5

Built-in protection devices

The Hippo is equipped with the following built-in protection devices:
The maximum speed is reduced while the high/low system is in use.
The maximum speed may be reduced by the dealer.
Parking brake: when the wheelchair comes to a standstill, the parking brake is applied
automatically.
The electronics are protected against overloading of the motor: automatic reset.
The lighting circuit is short-proof.
The main power circuit is protected against short-circuiting.
Battery indicator: indicates when the battery needs to be recharged.
If the wheelchair is switched on and the joystick is not in neutral, the wheelchair will
not move. By moving the joystick to the neutral position, the driving function is
reactivated.

Troubleshooting

3.6.1

Electric

The battery indicator is blinking if there is a malfunction or if your wheelchair is not
ready for use.
Check whether the charging plug was removed from the charging point.
Make sure your wheelchair is NOT in neutral.
Check whether the joystick is in the neutral position.
