Method 3: Washer-disinfector
(Professional Healthcare only)
Use a washer-disinfector according to the requirements set out in
the ISO 15883 series of standards.
The effectiveness of this procedure has been validated by using
the alkaline-enzymatic cleaning agent neodisher
forte (Chemische Fabrik Dr. Weigert, Hamburg) as the cleaning
agent in conjunction with demineralised water as a neutraliser.
The nebuliser handset is for single patient use only and
must not be shared between patients. Therefore it is important
to group nebuliser handset parts by patient while washing. Posi-
tion the parts so that they are cleaned thoroughly everywhere.
Use demineralised water and a suitable cleaning agent, following
the instructions of the cleaning agent manufacturer. Select the
programme for cleaning and subsequent thermal disinfection that
achieves at least an A0 value of 3000.
Even if the washer-disinfector is equipped with a drying function,
make sure that no residual moisture remains in the nebuliser
handset by shaking the parts and allowing them to dry on a clean,
lint-free towel. After the parts are completely dry, store them in a
clean bag or cover them with a clean, lint-free towel.
Reassemble just before treatment.
