Arc flickers and jumps

Contact tip worn
Feeder rollers have incorrect diameter
Feed spiral is badly contaminated
Electrode and work piece do not reach
working temperature
Incorrect wire feed rate
Arc with a strange colour
Cause:
Not enough/no shielding gas
Incorrect shielding gas
Wire unwinds in uncontrolled fashion
Cause:
Wire spool brake is set too high or too low
Wire feed problems
Controller defective

Solution:
Replace contact tip
Use feeder rollers with correct diameter
Replace spiral
Use thinner wire
Modify rate to suit
Solution:
Check shielding gas supply
Use the correct shielding gas
Solution:
Set wire spool brake
Hose package should be blown out with
every change of wire
Feeder spiral and rollers must match the wire
diameter
