1.3 Safety instructions for handling AdBlue / DEF

A common term for AdBlue is also DEF (DEF is the same as AdBlue)
In this manual, the name AdBlue is used
Always observe the instructions in the AdBlue / DEF safety data sheet.
AdBlue is a non-toxic, clear, synthetically produced solution. It is not classified as a hazardous
substance and is assigned to the lowest water hazard category 1.
In chemical terms, AdBlue is an aqueous, super pure 32.5 % urea solution, the constant quality
of which is ensured by conformity to the applicable DIN 70 070 standard.

Hygiene measures:
In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and consult a
doctor.
If clothes soaked with AdBlue come into contact with the skin, take them off immediately and
wash the affected areas thoroughly with plenty of water.
If skin irritation occurs, consult a doctor immediately.
If AdBlue solution is swallowed, consult a doctor immediately and take the data sheet with you.
Attention:
Ammonia may be formed if an overdose of AdBlue is present in the hot catalytic
converter.
Ammonia is a powerful respiratory poison!
If the pungent odour of ammonia is perceived, immediately:
- Clear the hazard area of all personnel.
- Switch off the engine.
- Ensure the best possible ventilation.
- Consult a doctor immediately after inhaling ammonia.
