Risk of capacitive coupling: HF current can be transferred from
the activated instrument to other instruments, even if the two
are not touching (known as "capacitive coupling"). Risk of burns
to the patient and/or operating theater staff:
• Touch the tissue before activating the electrosurgical func-
tion of the instrument.
• Do not use hybrid trocars (e.g. a combination of metal and
plastic). Only use trocars designed for use with electrosurgi-
cal devices.
• Only use approved endoscopes for electrosurgery.
In the case of a long activation time and/or activations which
follow in quick succession (with no cooling time) the distal in-
strument tip can become extremely hot. This is not a material
fault, rather a consequence of heavy-duty use.
If leaks develop on instrument parts during application, there is
an acute danger of burns. Any separating medium that leaks un-
controllably conducts the current during electrosurgical activa-
tion. This can cause injury to the patient and/or surgical staff.
Dispose of the instrument immediately in such a case, and con-
tinue the surgery with a new and undamaged instrument.
Risk of infection for the medical staff. Medical staff may come
into contact with contaminated separating medium if the sepa-
rating medium splashes or there is an uncontrolled waterjet. Use
personal protective equipment, e.g. a face mask and splash
guard. The protective equipment must be appropriate for the risk
arising from the patient.
