E: REMOVAL OF EXISTING GRIPS AND PREPARATION
1. Remove the existing handlebar grips.
2. Clean the left handlebar ensuring that the bars are smooth and free of glue and
residue.
3. When the right grip is removed there is a nylon throttle slider tube underneath. Any
raised areas should be smoothed off to ensure that the diameter is a consistent
25.6mm. This often involves filing off the raised ridges that were formed on the
throttle.
F: TRIAL FIT THE OXFORD HOTGRIPS®
1. Always "dry fit" the grip to the bar first, to ensure that the grip is a snug fit before
using the adhesive.
2. Do not pull the grip wires or use that part of the grip as a lever when fitting the
grips to the handlebars as damage may occur.
3. If the grips are too tight to slide on with only a gentle effort, do not force them
on or use a hammer to knock the grips onto the handlebars as this will crack the
internal plastic tube or damage/break the inbuilt controller.
4. If the left grip is too tight, check the dimensions of the handlebar and ensure there
is no glue residue. If the right grip is too tight to fit over the throttle tube, firstly
check the tube is a consistent diameter, file any ridges smooth if necessary.
5. If the HotGrips® still do not slide on easily, use a file and gently remove excess
rubber from the inside of the HotGrips®.
6. When sliding the grips onto the handlebars it is possible to twist them into place
until they reach the correct finished position.
7. Ensure that the throttle (right) grip operates freely and returns to the closed
position without abnormal friction. If the grip binds on return then it indicates that
the fit between the throttle tube and grip is too tight.
G: POSITIONING ON HANDLEBARS:
1. Position the grips so that the wires do not foul against the brake/clutch levers. The
throttle grip should rotate freely without obstruction and without stretching or
pinching the wires. Ensure that the grips cable entry point is below the level of the
clutch and brake lever (shown below).
