ENGLISH – Instructions
!
Warning
Make sure you are familiar with the operating instructions
before you use this machine.
Before making any adjustments (e.g. setting the torque,
changing bits) disconnect the machine from the compressed
air line.
The machine, together with any attachments and
accessories, must never be used for anything other than the
designed purpose.
Use power sockets only. For safe and economic use –
replace worn sockets.
Check that the power socket is properly fastened – replace
the square drive retainer when necessary.
Keep your fingers away from the power socket during
operation to avoid exposure to vibrations that may cause
circulatory disturbances in your fingers.
Never work without protective goggles.
Avoid unnecessary idling.
When using a suspension yoke, check that it is in good
condition and correctly fastened.
Dismantling and assembly precautions :
The rotor blades (vanes) in the tool have a PTFE content.
The normal Health and Safety recommendations
concerning PTFE must be observed when handling these
rotor blades. Particles from wear of blades might be found
in the machine housing or on the blades. These particles
must not get in contact with open fire. Wash your hands
before smoking as PTFE-particles heated by the glow
can produce fumes which may give rise to allergic
reaction.
The machine is designed for a working pressure (e) of max 7 bar =
700kPa (102 psi).
Compressed air connection and hose size – see the spare parts list.
Make sure that the hose size is correct.
Air quality
 For optimum performance and maximum machine life we
recommend use of compressed air with a dew point between
+2°C and +10°C. Installation of an Atlas Copco refrigeration-type
air dryer is recommended.
 Use a separate air filter of type Atlas Copco FIL installed as close
as possible to the machine. Blow out the hose before connecting.
 There is no disadvantage for the operation of the machine if the
compressed air contains a small quantity of oil (1–5 mg/m
quality according to ISO/TC 118, quality class 2.4.3. or 3.4.4. is
recommended.
 With extremely dry air, service life of vanes may be reduced.
Setting of tightening torque (See fig. No. 15)
The torque is adjusted by setting the adjusting screw with a groove.
Do not mix up the adjusting screw and the oil filling plug with hex. key
hole. The adjusting screw is to be turned clockwise to increase the
tightening torque
The adjusting screw is accessible through the hole in the housing. If
nesseary, turn the outgoing spindle.
After adjusting, do not forget to assemble the plug of the hole in the
housing.
Note
It is recommended to start at min. torque setting – when the
adjustment screw is screwed out approx. 7 turns from the
bottom position. Do not screw out more than 8 turns from
max.
Check the tightening torque given on the joint in question.
Test method – Static or Dynamic (fig. No. 17, 18)
A static torque measurement is recommended for the ErgoPulse
machines.
If a dynamic torque measurement using an electronic inline torque
transducer is used, always verify your measurement method by a
static check with a torque wrench (electronic).

Refill the pulse-unit with oil (See fig. No. 16)
For optimum machine performance the quantity of oil in the pulse-unit
must be correct. An accurate refill of the pulse-unit gives long
intervals between the refills.
Too much oil in the pulse-unit implies low pulse frequency and
there will be a risk that the machine does not reach the expected
tightening torque.
Too little oil in the pulse-unit implies high pulse frequency and a
decreased tightening torque. In particular at the first tightenings after
a break the machine can race and the tightening torque will be too
low.
Use Oil : 22 cST / 40 °C (ISO VG22)
Rust protection and internal cleaning
Water in the compressed air, dust and wear particles cause rust and
sticking of vanes, valves etc. An air filter should be installed close to
the machine (see 'Air quality'). Before longer standstills, flush with
oil (some drops) into the air inlet, run the machine for 5–10 seconds
when absorbing the oil in a cloth.
Overhaul and lubrication
The machine is normally used as a heavy-duty machine. It should,
therefore, be dismantled, overhauled and cleaned after 100 000
(ambitious service level) to 250 000 (maximum) tightenings. If it is not
running properly, it should be taken out of service for inspection.
The strainer at the air inlet and the exhaust silencer should be
cleaned frequently or replaced in order to prevent clogging, which
decreases the capacity.
At the overhauls, all parts should be cleaned accurately and defective
or worn parts (e.i. O-rings, vanes) should be replaced.
The throttle valve, O–rings and the bearings must be lubricated with
grease of EP–type. Use good quality lubricants, see table at fig. No.
14)
For the vane motor, apply a thin layer of oil on to the end faces of
rotor and end plates. Assemble the motor as the service instructions,
fig. No.13.
Threaded connections
It is important that the machine's threaded connections are tightened
properly ; i.e. in accordance with the specifications on the exploded
views.
Note
Selected Service Kits (Optional)

). Air
The spare parts included in the service kits cover a normal overhaul
of your machine. Always have them available in your workshop for a
fast and economical repair.
