niques, a good EMC shield must be provided in the stranded area, where the shielding is
also extensively connected.
Electrical and magnetic fields often induce interference voltages in the measuring circuit.
This interference arises primarily from power lines lying parallel to the measuring leads,
but also from contactors or electric motors in the vicinity. Interference voltage can also
be directly coupled. This occurs especially when the measuring chain is grounded at sev
eral points that do not have the same electric potential. In order to avoid interference
coupling, please note the following information:
S
Use shielded, low-capacitance measurement cables only (HBK cables fulfill both con
ditions).
S
Only use plugs that meet EMC guidelines.
S
Do not route the measurement cables parallel to power lines and control circuits. If
this is not possible (in cable pits, for example), protect the measurement cable with
rigid steel conduits and keep it at least 50 cm away from the other cables.
S
Avoid stray fields from transformers, motors and contact switches.
S
Do not ground the transducer, amplifier and indicator more than once.
S
Connect all devices to the same protective earth conductor.

Pin assignment

The terminal box features 6-pin sockets in a 6-wire configuration. The number of plugs
matches the number of components to be measured. Outputs not in use are occupied by
dummy jacks.
If the transducer is connected in accordance with the connection diagram shown in
Fig. 8.1, the output voltage at the amplifier is positive when under compressive loading.
