7. Ensure that the exterior of the kettle is clean and dry. Then place the kettle onto
the power base. The appliance is now ready for operation (standby mode).
8. Select the desired program (see: 'Selecting or Setting Up a Program' or 'Heating
Clear Water').

SELECTING OR SETTING UP A PROGRAM

9. Select the desired program (see: 'Properties of Your New Tea Maker / Recom-
mended Usage of the Programs').
Heating water to the boil: For this purpose, you do not need to select a program.
However, you can adjust the desired temperature (see below: 'Heating Clear Water').
Selecting a pre-defined tea program: Press the selection buttons + or – until the
desired program is shown on the display.
Selecting a user-defined program: Use the FAV./CUS. button for toggling to the
user-defined programs (1 to 4). Then press the selection buttons + or – for displaying
the desired program.
IMPORTANT - When changing a pre-defined tea program, selecting another
program recalls the previous settings, and all entries made up to this point are
lost. However, the appliance always uses the values shown on the display, when
starting any program. When a user-defined program is selected, your own settings
are kept in memory permanently. Any previous values are overwritten and lost irre-
versibly. Only the user-defined programs can be overwritten. If you wish to keep
the previous settings, select a pre-defined tea program.
NOTE
Via the TEMP/TIME button you can toggle between setting the temperature or
steeping time.
10. For changing the temperature and steeping time, press the TEMP/TIME button.
First, the temperature flashes on the display. Within 5 seconds press the selec-
tion buttons + or – until the desired value appears. The accepted range of tem-
perature values is 50°C (122°F) to 100°C (212°F) in steps of 5°C (9°F). This
temperature will be kept during the complete steeping time.
For changing the steeping time, with the temperature still flashing, press the TEMP/
TIME button again to make the steeping time flash. Via the selection buttons + and –
you can set up the steeping time from 30 seconds ("0:30") to 20 minutes (20:00")
in steps of 30 seconds.

11. Press the AUTO STEEP button for activating or deactivating automatic steeping
(see: 'Properties of Your New Tea Maker / Automatic Extraction'). With the Auto
Steep Function activated, the AUTO STEEP button is illuminated.
NOTE
Before starting any program, you may change all settings (automatic steeping,
temperature, and steeping time) within the accepted range. The appliance uses
always the currently displayed values.

MAKING TEA

You can make tea directly within the kettle. For this, you may use tea bags or loose
tea leaves and dried fruit. In any case, you should use the filter system of the appli-
ance for making some very interesting and innovative features available (see: 'Pro-
perties of Your New Tea Maker').
NOTE
When using tea bags, you may use the tea maker without the filter system. In this
case, you should use the WATER function (see: 'Heating Clear Water'). However,
it is better to use the provided filter system and place your tea bags (without thread
and label) into the tea infuser of the appliance and benefit from the special func-
tions of the appliance (see: 'Preparing the Filter System').
NOTE
To reduce energy consumption, do not leave the appliance in keep warm mode
uselessly. The maximum temperature of the keep warm function is limited to 90°C
with the maximum keep warm time selected via the settings menu (see: 'Prefe-
rences').
We recommend to hold the stainless steel coaster provided with the appliance at
hand. Place the tea bags or tea infuser on it after steeping. This will keep your wor-
king space clean and dry. However, you may use any other suitably large coaster
or vessel.
12. Prepare the filter system (see: 'Preparing the Filter System').
13. Prepare the appliance for operation (see: 'Preparing the Appliance for Operati-
on'). When connecting the appliance to the power supply, the pre-defined tea
program "GREEN" with the pre-defined values is always selected.
14. Check the operating elements (display and buttons) against the desired settings.
If required, make your changes (see: 'Selecting or Setting Up a Program').
