THE AUTO START FUNCTION

NOTE
As a default, the clock and starting time of the auto start function are displayed in
12 hours mode with the icons "AM" (morning) or "PM" (afternoon) in the topmost
line of the display. You can set up the 24 hours mode within the settings menu
(see: 'Preferences').
For determining the correct starting time, the process of setting up the auto start func-
tion covers the setting of the internal clock of the appliance.
IMPORTANT - Before activating the auto start function, check the settings of the
clock and starting time by holding the AUTO START button pressed until the clock
and starting time are displayed.
The auto start function is active, when the AUTO START button is illuminated and the
alarm clock icon is shown on the topmost line of the display. The appliance starts
operation, when the set starting time is reached and executes the selected program.
Completely and correctly prepare the appliance for operation with the kettle filled
with the appropriate amount of water (at least 0.5 litres; see: 'Operation'). Select
the desired program, before activating the auto start function.
IMPORTANT - After the program is finished completely (including the maximum
keep warm time), the automatic shut-off is triggered, switching off the heating ele-
ments and display (see: 'Automatic Shut-Off').

BOIL DRY PROTECTION

The water kettle is fitted with an overheat protection device (boil dry protection),
which safeguards against overheating of the heating elements. Overheating may
occur, when ...
too much scale is on the heating elements. Descale the kettle in time (see: 'Care
and Cleaning').
too little water is in the kettle. Always observe the minimum filling level (250ml;
approx. 1cm / half an inch above the temperature probe). Please keep in mind,
that water may vaporize, when left for a long time in the kettle on high tempe-
rature. Observe the filling level during operation and after pouring.
CAUTION
– DO NOT pour cold water into the hot kettle to avoid damage.
Always leave the kettle cool down, before filling in cold water.

When overheating occurs, the kettle automatically switches off and the error mes-
sage "E2" illuminates. Remove the kettle from the power base and pour out any resi-
dues. Then leave the kettle cool down by waiting at least 30 minutes with the lid left
open. Thereafter, you may reactivate the appliance. However, you should clean the
kettle, after overheating occurred.

TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS

Except for the type of tea, the amount of ingredients, the steeping temperature, and
the steeping time have a great influence on the taste and composition of extracted
compounds within your tea. The optimum settings strongly depend on your liking and
the type of your tea. Thus, it is worth it giving it a try. Adapt the amount of ingre-
dients to your linking.
When preparing leaves of the tea bush, we recommend to start with 5 to 7 g crus-
hed leaves (approx. 2-3 heaped teaspoons) for each 500 ml of water.
For making fruit tea or herbal tea, you may like to use other amounts.
When making black tea, long steeping times may result in dissolving surplus
bitter components and getting a calming effect. The stimulating compounds of
black tea are dissolved within a quite short steeping time. Thus, controlling the
steeping time accordingly, you can determine the taste and effect of your tea.
Leave some free space within the tea infuser to allow swelling of the ingredients.
Advice according to the best preparation (dosage, temperature, and steeping
time) may be given on the pack of your tea ingredients. In specialized tea shops,
good advice may be given by the employees.
Medically used types of tea may need special settings for reaching the opti-
mum effectiveness. Adhere to the recipe given on the pack or get advice in
your apothecary's shop. The automatic steeping function of the appliance can
assist you in keeping the correct temperature and steeping time (see: 'Properties
of Your New Tea Maker / Automatic Extraction'). When using tea bags, you
can place the tea bag directly into the kettle (see: 'Operation'). However, we
recommend to use the filter system. Simply remove the thread and paper label
and place the tea bags into the tea infuser (see: 'Operation / Preparing the Filter
System'). In this case, you can use the tea programs or user-defined programs
quite as usual (see: 'Properties of Your New Tea Maker / Automatic Extraction').
