Maintenance, operating hours
and repairs

Packing

The canopy must be folded cell to cell, ensuring that the cell wall re-
inforcements in the leading edge are laid as fl at as possible on top of
one another. Changing the location of the main fold around the centre
of the wing furthermore avoids wear and tear on the same sections.
Avoid unnecessary compression and excessively tight packing.

Maintenance

Ultraviolet light, heat, moisture, salt water, aggressive cleaning
agents, improper storage or mechanical stress (dragging the glider
over the ground) will accelerate the ageing process. The life of a glid-
er can be extended signifi cantly by observing the following points:
Do not unnecessarily expose the glider to sunlight before and after
the fl ight (UV light).
Allow a wet or damp glider to dry completely by leaving it
unpacked at room temperature or outdoors in the shade.
Do not expose the packed glider to excessive temperature
fl uctuations and ensure adequate air circulation to prevent the
formation of condensation.
Should the glider come into contact with salt water, rinse it
thoroughly with fresh water.
Only clean the glider with fresh water and a little neutral soap if
necessary. Do not use solvents under any circumstances.
Regularly remove sand, leaves, stones and snow from the cells.
Openings with Velcro closures are provided at the wing tips
for this purpose.
Have the glider examined by an expert if it was subjected to
increased stress (such as a tree landing).
Do not drag the glider across the ground.
When landing, make sure that the canopy does not impact on
the leading edge.

Lines

All lines on the OMEGA 7 are unsheathed. Because of the lower drag,
the glider's performance can thus be signifi cantly increased. With a
more compact weave and an additional coating of the separate
twines on the unsheathed lines, it has proved possible to boost the
UV-resistance as well as the abrasion resistance signifi cantly. Never-
theless, unsheathed lines call for greater attention and care. Under
«normal conditions», the lines must be replaced after no more than
200 fl ying hours and checked after 100 hours if subjected to in-
creased stress.
