be divided into two phases: following an initial phase of fl at turning,
the paraglider begins to turn in an ever-decreasing radius with increa-
sed angle of bank. In the second phase, the paraglider launches into
the spiral. This means that the wing tips on its nose with additional
acceleration. During this manoeuvre, try to maintain the neutral sitting
position and give in to the centrifugal force - your body will be pulled
outwards.
The manoeuvre is completed by progressively releasing the control
line on the inside of the turn. During spiral dives with high sink rates
and a high rotational speed, it is essential to ease off gradually. In this
way you can prevent excessive pitching back of the canopy followed
by diving forward. Ensure that you have suffi cient altitude when com-
ing out of the manoeuvre. As a general rule, you have to allow the
same time as for initiating the manoeuvre, while bearing in mind that
the sink rate is higher!
Important: The OMEGA 7 ONLY comes out of a spiral dive by itself
with the pilot in a neutral sitting position. Weight shifting to the inside
of the turn results in increased acceleration and stable continued ro-
tation. In this case, active counter-braking with simultaneous weight
transfer to the outside of the turn is required to end the manoeuvre
(push your body outwards).
The OMEGA 7 is approved for harnesses in group GH (without rigid
cross-bracing). Harnesses in group GX (with cross-bracing) or those
with a very low suspension point may drastically change the fl ying
characteristics in a spiral. See the section «Suitable harnesses».
Symmetric folding of the wing tips (big ears)
When initiating this manoeuvre, pull the outer A-line of both risers
simultaneously and briskly downwards. This causes the wing tips
to fold inwards and remain in this position. To reopen them, you
have to use the brakes. On account of the high residual resistance,
ADVANCE advises against pulling big ears with two lines on the
OMEGA 7.
Warning: Do not fl y spiral dives or abrupt changes of direction with
big ears; the increased strain on a small number of lines may result in
material damage.
B-stall
A B-stall involves extreme stress on the entire material and the profi le
of the paraglider. For this reason we advise against B-stalling your
wing, although this manoeuvre does not present any particular prob-
lems with the OMEGA 7.
