APPENDIX

LONG PERIOD OF INACTIVITY
When the motorcycle is to be stored for a certain
period, it should be prepared for storage as follows.
Clean the entire motorcycle thoroughly.
-
Drain all fuel from the tank.
-
Fill the tank with fuel added with a stabiliser.
-
Lubricate the final drive chain and all the wirings and
-
hoses.
Set the motorcycle on a support or stand so that
-
both wheels are raised off the ground (if this cannot
be done, put boards under the wheels to keep
moisture away from the tyres).
Tie a plastic bag over the exhaust pipe to prevent
-
moisture from entering.
Disassemble the battery and, if possible, connect it
-
to a maintainer. Furthermore, please note that each
type of battery, if not connected to the vehicle, is
subject to a physiological discharge that becomes
irreversible if not cyclically recharged.
Put a cover over the motorcycle to keep dust and dirt
-
from collecting on it.
WARNING
Never release fuel into the environment,
and never let the engine run indoors - only
outdoors.
To reactivate the motorcycle after storage, proceed as
follows:
make sure the spark plug is tightened;
-
fill the fuel tank;
-
run the engine to warm the oil up then drain the oil;
-
refill with fresh oil;
-
check all the points listed under the section "Checks
-
and Adjustments" (Appendix A);
lubricate all the points listed under the section
-
"Lubrication" (Appendix A).
CLEANING
Before washing the motorcycle, it is necessary to duly
protect the following parts:
a.
Rear opening of the exhaust;
b.
Air filter intake;
c.
Clutch and front brake levers, twistgrips, handlebar
switches;
d.
Fork head, wheel bearings;
e.
Rear suspension links.
CAUTION
Do not clean the motorcycle with high
pressure water jets on the electrical
parts and the injection feeding system,
in particular the electronic control unit (1)
and the TPS sensor unit (2).
After washing:
lubricate the points listed in the "Maintenance Table"
-
(Appendix A);
briefly warm up the engine;
-
test the brakes before riding the motorcycle.
-
WARNING
Never wax or lubricate the brake discs.
Loss of braking efficiency and an accident
could result. Clean the disc with a solvent
such as acetone.
