5) uSE OF ThE KEYBOARD
The keyboard has 16 keys: 10 are alphanumeric and 6 are func-
tional.
· Each time they are pressed, the alphanumeric keys enter in
cyclical sequence:
the numerical key ⇒ the first alphabetical character ⇒ the second
⇒ the third ⇒ the numerical key ⇒ the first alphabetical character
etc.
For ex. 1 ⇒ A ⇒ B ⇒ C ⇒ 1 ⇒ A ⇒ B ...
If the time between pressing one key and the next exceeds 2
seconds, the character is accepted and the cursor automatically
moves to the subsequent position. During entry of a number in
hexadecimal format (for ex. the receiver code), the sequence
starts from the number, and only the alphabetical characters from
A to F are enabled.
· Functional key "5" allows you to scroll the cursor up to choose
the menus shown on the display.
· Functional key "6" allows you to scroll the cursor down to choose
the menus shown on the display.
· Functional key "ESCAPE" cancels a choice and returns to the
previous menu.
· Functional key "ENTER" allows you to move to the menu highli-
ghted or, when entering a parameter, allows you to confirm the
value entered.
· Functional key "4" allows you to move the cursor to the right
when entering texts and parameters. It is useful for inserting blank
spaces when entering texts. When browsing through the menus,
it can be used as an alternative to ENTER.
· Functional key "3" allows you to move the cursor to the left when
entering texts and parameters. When entering texts, scrolling to
the left can be used to cancel the text already entered. When
browsing through the menus, it can be used as an alternative to
ESC.
6) MENu ORGANISATION
The menus which follow one another on the PROXIMA display are
organised as a tree, starting from the welcome screen pages:
----------------------------------------
B.F.T. SPA
PROXIMA V1.3
software version installed on the PROXIMA device
Universal
Programmer
----------------------------------------
Serial N.:1234
device serial number
Board arch:1
number of current control unit list (see paragraph 7.5)
Receiv. arch.1
number of current receiver list (see paragraph 8.4)
CLONIX 512
type of current receiver list (see paragraph 8.4)

After a total time of about 9 seconds (press ESC to avoid waiting),
the programmer automatically moves to the main menu where you
can choose the activity to carry out:

· Control units: allows you to configure the control units (see
paragraph 7).
· Radio transmitters: allows you to configure the INTRIC/CLO-
NIX/RTD radio receiver systems (see paragraph 8).
· Capri: allows you to analyse one CAPRI network and to check
the devices connected to it (see Fig.5).
· Go to menu no.: allows you to access a menu directly by typing
the identification number. Each menu is distinguished by the
INSTALLATION MANUAL
letter M followed by a number. The number indicates the menu
tree level. For example, menu M241 is reached by choosing the
second item of the main menu, the fourth item of menu 2 and
the first item of menu 24:
For a list of the menu numbering sequence, see table "Function
index".
· Configuration: inside this menu, you can find the functions which
allow you to change the parameters of the palmtop device:
· Language change: Select this item to access menu M51 for
choosing the language used by the terminal. Enter a number
based on the language chosen, keeping in mind that: <0> corre-
sponds to Italian, <1> corresponds to French, <2> corresponds
to German, <3> corresponds to English and <4> corresponds
to Spanish.
Press <ENTER> to confirm the choice made.
· Serial no. change: Select this item to access menu M52 for
setting the terminal serial number. The terminal serial number
is made up of 4 figures and is memorised in the control units,
therefore making it possible at a later time to determine whether
the control unit has been modified by using a different program-
mer. Enter the serial number and press <ENTER> to confirm
the choice made.
During maintenance, if the programmer connected has a diffe-
rent serial number from the previous one, the system gives the
following message "Warning! PROXIMA not authorised <ESC>
or <ENTER>" where: by pressing <ESC> you exit programming
and can set the correct serial number in PROXIMA: by pressing
<ENTER> you compel the system to accept a programmer with
a different serial number. This way, it is possible to check whether
a change has been made with another programmer since the
latest maintenance operation.
· Date and time: allows you to change the current date and
time.
· Display: allows you to regulate the display.
· Light: Select this item to access menu M541 for setting
display lighting operation. If the light is disabled, battery life
is increased. Press <ENTER> to confirm the choice made.
If you choose to have a lit display, the light stays on for 10
seconds since the last command given. Each time a key is
pressed, the light comes on for about 10 seconds.
· Contrast: it is possible to increase or decrease the display
contrast.
· Buzzer: allows you to activate or deactivate the internal buz-
zer.
