To assess the danger of a work situation and therefore the PPE to be used, the fall factor (fig.4) is defined
which is calculated with the following formula: Fall factor = Fall height / length of the cord.
In the event that the fall factor is 0 and therefore the operator is below the anchor point with the cord taut, or in
the event of a fall factor of 1 but with maximum free movement of 0.6 m, equipment for positioning can be used.
In the other cases with fall factor greater than or equal to 1, the use of fall arrester devices that limit the impact force to
below 6 kN is compulsory.
Calculate the minimum clearance distance needed below the operator's feet taking into consideration both the
extension of the absorption system and the bending of the flexible anchoring line. See the situations indicated on table
B for the bending calculation. In the event of installations other than those indicated, refer to the most similar and worse
situation.
Ensure that during bending, the lifeline webbing cannot come into contact with sharp edges, abrasive surfaces or other
dangers that can compromise safety and resistance. Humidity, frost, exposure to UV rays and ageing due to use also
decrease the strength of the tape sling.
Consider that the bending of the line can influence the performance of systems such as rope access or rescue systems.
Normally there are no compatibility problems with EN 355 energy absorbing lanyards or EN 358 work positioning
systems.
Compatibility has been verified with EN 360 retractable devices CAMP Cobra 10 ref.2076, Cobra 15 ref.2077, Cobra 20
ref.2078, Cobra 32 ref.2099 and with EN 353-2 guided fall arrester devices EN 353-2 CAMP Goblin ref.0999 and CAMP
Blin Kit ref.2565. Do not use EN 360 retractable devices or EN 353-2 fall arresters other than those listed: possible
compatibility problems connected to locking off and to minimum clearance distance.
The product is not suitable for hanging or lifting loads (fig.5).
Use adequate rescue equipment and provide adequate training for the work crew so that they can quickly rescue the
injured person to minimise the suspension trauma effects.
Main material of the line: polyester, galvanized steel.
"OVAL STANDARD LOCK" CARABINER item 0981E SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Summary
CAMP "Oval Standard Lock" ref.0981E is a connector certified in accordance with standard EN 362:2004 Type B.
Use
The length of the connector must be taken into consideration when it is used with a fall arrester system because it has
an influence on the fall height.
The characteristics of the connector are indicated on table C. Class B corresponds to basic connectors. The main
material of the connector is steel. Correct connection of the connector is indicated in fig.6. The user of a manual closing
connector must avoid disconnecting it many times in the same work session. For connection to an anchor point or a
subsystem, always check the correct alignment along the major axis (fig.7). Anchoring of the system must be preferably
located above the user's position and must have resistance in conformity with standard EN 795 (fig.8). Attention: some
situations can reduce the resistance of the connector. Any positioning that stresses the connector lever (for example
with a descender) is dangerous (fig.9).
A connector loses more than half of its resistance when the lever is open (see table C).
Check for correct operation of the lever closing before use:
• the return of the lever against the connector body when closing. During the check, the lever must be released slowly in
order to neutralise the action of the spring.
• operation of the lever closing device. You must be able to tighten and loosen the screw all the way. A connector with
partial locking must not be used.
In some aggressive environments (mud, sand, paint, ice, dirty water...), movement may not work correctly. In this case,
after cleaning, lubricate the lever mechanism with silicone-based lubricant. Note: cleaning and lubrication are
