Adjusting the speed system

Thread the speed system cords (one of which is located behind the side pocket) th-
rough the pulleys towards the front of the seat board (at the back of the knee). Then
thread them through two metal rings, which are fastened to a bungee. Now connect
the cords to the speed bar symmetrically (!). The correct length adjustment is im-
portant. If the cords are too short, there is the danger that the wing is constantly
accelerated, which should be avoided at all costs.
If the cords are too short there is also the possibility that the speed bar is unre-
achable.
If the cords are set too long, it is not possible to accelerate the wing to its maxi-
mum speed.
We recommend setting the cords a little too long when first fitting the speed sys-
tem, so that the free play can be judged during flight. Then the slack can be taken
up if necessary.

Optional stirrup

The ALTUS is equipped with tabs which can be used to fit a stirrup. The stirrup can
be fitted to the harness using a screwgate carabiner. A bungee should be used to
connect the stirrup to the speed bar.
Please only use the stirrup recommended by NOVA.

Optional cockpit

The carabiners on the main hang points can be used to secure a cockpit.

Installing the parachute

General
The combination of parachute and harness cannot be standardised: parachutes
vary in volume depending on their size and manner of packing. To accommodated
this, we have made the size of the tube container on the ALTUS adjustable. The
maximum volume of the rescue parachute may not exceed five liters.
For reasons of safety, compatibility checking and parachute installation should be
performed by an expert. We recommend contacting your NOVA Service partner:

Choosing a parachute
On the ALTUS, the tube container is fitted in the lumbar area. Once in the air, it is
enclosed by the Airbag. If the parachute is deployed, the airbag remains inflated.
The volume of the tube container can be adjusted using the Velcro fastener. Adjust
the volume so that the parachute is secured, but it is not too tight. On the one hand
it must never move or rotate within the container, but on the other hand it must be
easy to deploy.
Modern parachutes are generally easy to fit in the container. Very large parachutes
(more common in older models) may struggle to fit into the tube container. If the
parachute fits too tightly, we do not recommend using this combination.
In every case a compatibility check must be performed. Therefore it must be ascer-
tained whether, and how, the parachute and harness work together. If they are
incompatible, another parachute must be selected.
Steerable parachutes
The ALTUS can be fitted with a steerable parachute like the BEAMER, which is
manufactured by NOVA. This requires the standard red connection straps to be
removed and replaced with those of the steerable parachute. They should be
connected to the shoulder loops using screwgate carabiners (minimum 2400 daN
strength). These loops are located under the elastic mesh.
As with standard parachutes, steerable parachutes also require a compatibility
test. NOVA recommends that this is performed at an approved service centre.
