INTRODUCTION

Indications
The 9055 series DeVilbiss RPM bilevel CPAP is intended for use in treating obstructive sleep apnea in adult patients.

What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a condition where the upper airway relaxes during sleep causing the airway to obstruct. "Apnea" is the Latin word
meaning "without breath." People diagnosed with sleep apnea stop breathing repeatedly during sleep, resulting in extreme exhaustion. High blood
pressure, cardiac enlargement, and cardiac arrhythmia are common, as are shortness of breath and loud snoring. In a 1993 report, the National
Commission on Sleep Disorders Research stated that as many as 18 million Americans may have signs and symptoms of sleep apnea.
How Does The Bilevel CPAP System Work?
The bilevel CPAP instrument provides non-invasive continuous air pressure to your upper airway, acting as an air "splint" to keep the airway
passages open during sleep. This reduces and eliminates the obstructive events, allowing uninterrupted sleep. The DeVilbiss 9055 Series is
designed to provide this therapy to you quietly and comfortably so that your sleep is restorative and refreshing. The bilevel mode provides two
levels of pressure established by the physician. There is an inspiratory positive airway pressure (IPAP) and an expiratory positive airway pressure
(EPAP) setting. These two pressures allow for a more comfortable breathing pattern when treating your obstructive sleep apnea. In turn, this
should allow you to better comply with the therapy so you receive the most benefit from this treatment.
