d) Setting the Servo Saver

The steering of the vehicle is designed as an axle
leg steering.
The steering rods (A) of the left and right front
wheels are thus connected to an aluminium steer-
ing plate (B).
The pivoting movement of the servo control lever
(C) has an effect on the steering linkage (D) and
on one arm of the servo saver (E).
The second lever arm of the servo saver (G) gives
the aluminum steering plate (B) and thus causes
the wheels to turn via the steering links (A).
The servo saver consists of two levers (E + F) at a
90° angle to each other, which are not rigidly
coupled but can be moved against each other via
a spring (G) on a level with the steering linkage.
When hard shocks are transmitted from the wheels
into the steering link during operation, they are
not immediately transmitted to the steering servo,
but are absorbed by the resilient connection of the
two lever arms (E + F) of the servo saver.
The effect of the servo saver can be adjusted with
a knurled nut (H) by modifying the contact pres-
sure on the two lever arms.
Please note:
If the setting is too stiff, the servo saver has no function. Hard impact against the wheels will be transferred
to the steering servo and cause damage to it.
If the setting is too soft, even a low force on the wheels (as appearing in normal driving operation) will
cause the servo saver to respond. The vehicle can then no longer be controlled exactly.
