Oiling the saw chain
CAUTION! Clean and oil the chain
regularly. This keeps the chain sharp
and achieves optimum machine per-
formance. Damage due to insufficient
maintenance of the saw chain will in-
validate the warranty. Remove the
batteries and use cut-resistant gloves
when handling the chain or blade bar.
• Oil the chain after cleaning, after
10 hours of use or at least once a
week, whichever comes first.
• Before oiling, the blade bar, espe-
cially the teeth of the blade bar,
must be thoroughly cleaned. Use a
hand brush and a dry cloth for this
purpose.
• Oil the individual chain links us-
ing an oil syringe with a needle tip
(available from specialist dealers).
Apply individual drops of oil on the
joints and on the tooth tips of the
individual chain links.
Sharpening the cutting teeth
CAUTION! Risk of injury! An incor-
rectly sharpened saw chain increases
the danger of kickback! Use cut-res-
istant gloves when working with the
saw chain or with the blade bar.
A sharp saw chain ensures optimum
cutting performance. It effortlessly
eats through the wood and leaves be-
hind large, long wood chips. A saw
chain is dull when you have to push
the cutting equipment through the

wood and the wood chips are very
small. With a very blunt saw chain, no
chips are produced, only wood dust.
Special tools are required for
sharpening the saw chain to en-
sure that the chain is sharpened at
the correct angle and to the correct
depth. For inexperienced chainsaw
users, we recommend having the saw
chain sharpened by an expert or a
specialist workshop. If you are con-
fident that you can sharpen the chain,
proceed according to the instructions
for your saw chain sharpener (e.g.
Parkside PSG 85 B2).
• The sawing parts of the saw chain
are the cutting links, which con-
sist of a cutting tooth and a depth
gauge lug. The height distance
between these two determines the
sharpening depth.
• The saw chain is worn and must
be replaced with a new saw chain
when only approx. 4 mm of the
cutting tooth is left.
• The following values must be taken
into account when sharpening the
cutting teeth (Fig. Q):
• Sharpening angle (30°)
• Front angle (85°)
• Sharpening depth (0.65 mm)
• Round file diameter (4.0 mm)
 WARNING! Risk of accident! Devi-
ations from the dimensions of the cut-
ting edge geometry can lead to an in-
