It depends on the type of rower if the rail needs some lubricant or not. Most of them don't, but check the
user manual for your specific model.
If there is any problem, check the rail for damage or dust and dirt. If it's OK, check the rollers on the seat.
Clean the rollers on the seat and check if the screws are tight.
If cleaning and tightening do not work, you may need to replace the rollers.
5. Chain
Some rowers have a chain between the handles and the flywheel, and some have a strap or belt. Chain
needs lubrication to stay in the best possible condition.
First, check if the handle is securely connected to the chain or strap. Check the chain/strap/belt for damage.
If you have a chain, it must be lubricated after each approx. 50 hours of use. It is not recommended to clean
the chain with any kind of solvent. Spray a little lubricant on a paper towel or a clean cloth, rub lubricant
over the entire length of the chain. Wipe off excess lubricant. Chain oil or mineral oil works well.
6. Swing joint
Many rowers have sliding rails that can be folded together for storage so that they do not take up as much
space. To make sure this works properly, you just need to make sure it moves freely and give it some
lubrication every once in a while.
7. Computer
Many rowers come with a simple computer that tracks certain aspects of training, such as stroke, stroke
speed, time, etc. The battery needs to be replaced at some point. It is normally very easy to replace this
yourself.
Maintenance by type of rowing machine
The way resistance is created differs in different types of rowing machines. This means that there are slightly
different moving parts, which means slightly different maintenance requirements.
The different types are:
• air resistance
• Magnetic resistance
• Fluid resistance
• Air + magnetic resistance
• Hydraulic resistance
Here's what maintenance is specific to these types.
Air resistance
Many rowing machines use air resistance. That means you're basically spinning a fan with your rowing. This
is simple and effective. There is not too much going wrong, the only problem is that the fan can get quite
dirty and dusty. If you regularly clean the air filters (if it has), fan blades and other dirty areas, your rower
will operate smoothly and extend its service life.
Usually it involves removing the cover around the fan and cleaning all the dirty areas with a vacuum cleaner
and a damp cloth.
Magnetic resistance
Magnetic resistance transgressions are closed so much less dust and dirt can get it. Over time, some dust
will still accumulate. If you think there is too much dust in there, you can go through the same process as for
a rowing machine with air resistance.
