IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• Prior to each feeding administration, verify whether the tube is still in the correct position and
the retainer has not loosened. Check to ensure that the balloon indicator is in the correct area.
• To protect the material, the ratchet clamp should be shifted daily and left open if not in use.
• To avoid damaging the tube, avoid injecting liquids into the balloon via the balloon valve, that
are not intended for use.
• It is advised to only use industrial tube and diluted powder nutrition as home brew nutrition
and mashed foods will contribute to clogging the tube. For fluid balancing it is advised to
strictly use water as acidic fluids (e.g. juice) also cause tube blockage through precipitation.
Tannins in tea can spoil tube's material.
• In the case of further surgeries or interventions in the abdomen respectively in the stomach
area, it has to be ensured that the placed tube and/or the blocking balloon don't get damaged.
If this is the case, the tube has to be replaced.
• In general, you can bathe and shower with the Flocare® DirectPEG tube. However, immersing
the tube in water for a longer period of time may affect the color that the balloon indicator
shows. Consequently, we recommend that you only bathe with the tube if the entire stoma,
including the tube and balloon indicator, has been covered with a waterproof bandage
beforehand. The individual status of the stoma (e.g. healed or inflamed) is also decisive. In
principle, prior consultation with the attending physician is recommended. Attention should
be payed to general hygiene rules, such as drying the stoma well, applying a fresh bandage
if applicable, etc.
• Do not use the Flocare® DirectPEG in the sauna, as the high temperature may affect the
balloon indicator.
!
• Products containing povidone-iodine (e. g. Betaisodona) and octenidine
dihydrochloride/phenoxyethanol (e. g. Octenisept) should be avoided
because these disinfectants may have a negative physical/mechanical
impact on the tube characteristics. The use of polyhexanide-based
disinfectants (e. g. Prontosan, Prontosan C, Prontoderm, Octenilin) is
recommended.
• Allow the disinfectant to evaporate for approx. 10 seconds until the tube
is dry before placing the external retaining plate into position. This is
necessary in order to achieve optimal tension of the external retaining
plate.
• Please note that in rare cases, insufficient or excessive care of the stoma
or the surrounding skin area can cause cellulitis or eczema.
