Monitoring
• During the fi rst 48 hours following placement of the Flocare® DirectPEG, closely monitor
(at least in the morning, at noon and in the evening) that the balloon indicator is in the blue
area to ensure that the stomach wall is drawn against the abdominal wall with adequate
tension. The balloon indicator should be monitored regularly until the stoma heals.
• If the balloon indicator is not in the desired area, this may be due to either the fi lling
volume of the balloon or the tension. Verify the cause by pressing the balloon tube into the
stoma until there is no tension on the balloon. If the indicator is in the green area, the fi lling
volume of the balloon should be suffi cient. The tension should then be checked again.
• However, if the balloon indicator is not in the green area, use a Luer-Lock syringe to add
small amount of sterile water until the balloon indicator move back to around the middle
of the green area. Always use the balloon fi lling valve (labelled "Balloon" on the tube) to
fi ll the balloon. If the balloon indicator doesn't stay in the green area, this means that the
balloon is most probably defective. In this case the tube has to be replaced in any case.
During the fi rst days following placement respectively until the stoma is completely healed
it is not advised to unblock the balloon completely to control the fi ll volume. Otherwise the
tube may slip out of the new stoma so that another intervention is required.
