TUBE FEEDING
In order to guarantee a complication-free application of the tube feed, make sure before starting
the feeding regime that the material of the tube and the clinical application system do not contain
any kinks that could interrupt the nutrition supply.
Bolus feeding:
For bolus feeding you need tube feed, a bolus adapter, a 100 ml ENFit™ syringe and irrigation
liquid. First of all, close the ratchet clamp on the tube and open the closure cap on the feeding
tube. Then, use the ENFit™ syringe to draw up 20 – 5 0 ml of irrigation liquid and connect the
syringe with the feeding tube. Open the ratchet clamp and administer the liquid slowly. Close the
ratchet clamp again and disconnect the ENFit™ syringe. Afterwards, draw up tube feed into the
ENFit™ syringe, connect the syringe with the tube once more and open the ratchet clamp. Push
the plunger with light tension to gently administer the tube feed. After complete emptying close
the ratchet clamp and disconnect the syringe. Repeat the procedure until the desired volume of
enteral nutrition has been given. Flush the tube with 20 – 5 0 ml liquid after administration of
tube feed and close the closure cap on the feeding tube.
Gravity feeding:
For gravity feeding you need tube feed, a gravity feeding set, a 20 ml or 60 ml ENFit™ syringe
and irrigation liquid. First of all, unpack the gravity feeding set and connect it with the feeding
container. The roller clamp has to be closed and the feeding container has to hang on a table
or drip stand. Squeeze the drip chamber of the feeding set several times until it has fi lled to one
third. Then, open the roller clamp to fi ll the gravity set with tube feed completely. Thereupon,
close the ratchet clamp on the tube and open the closure cap on the feeding tube. Remove the
closure cap at the end of the feeding set and connect it with the feeding tube. Open the ratchet
clamp of the Flocare® DirectPEG and move the roller clamp at the feeding set until the desired
speed/rate of feeding is reached. Flush the tube with 20 – 50 ml liquid after administration of
tube feed and close the closure cap on the feeding tube.
Pump feeding:
For feeding with an enteral feeding pump you need tube feed, a feeding set which is
compatible with the used enteral feeding pump, a 20 or 60 ml ENFit™ syringe and irrigation
liquid. First of all, unpack the feeding set, connect it with the feeding container and seat it into
the pump. Program the pump with the intended feeding mode. Thereupon, close the ratchet
clamp on the tube and open the closure cap on the feeding tube. Remove the closure cap at the
end of the feeding set and connect it with the feeding tube. Then, open the ratchet clamp at the
Flocare® DirectPEG and start the enteral feeding pump. Flush the tube with 20 – 5 0 ml liquid after
administration of tube feed and close the closure cap on the feeding tube.
In general, regardless of the type of application it is advised to sit in an upright postion of
30° angle or to take a sitting position during the enteral feeding and at least 30 min after
completion of feeding.

feeding pump used as well as the offi cial instructions for use.
