7. The Freeze-Drying Process
7.Process de lyophilisation
Note:
If a new cycle is to be run immediately after a previous
cycle was ended, the compressor (20) should not be
switched off to prevent the ice on the condenser coils
(19) from melting.
To obtain the greatest possible cooling capacity at the
beginning of a drying process, the condenser coils (19)
should be free of ice. To defrost the condenser coils (19)
proceed as follows:
• Press the DRYING button (51).
O The vacuum pump (16) and the compressor (20) are
switched off.
/ Remove all the parts mounted on the condenser housing
(2), including the base plate (3) (Cat. No. 045 60).
/ Place an empty container at the end of the condensate
discharge hose to collect the condensate being dischar-
ged. The end of the hose must remain above the surface
of the water and should not be immersed in it!
To defrost the condenser in the shortest possible time, hot
water can be poured over the condenser coils (19). The wa-
ter should cover all the coils and remain in the condenser
casing for a certain period of time. This takes advantage of
the entire available heat to defrost the condenser coils (19).
After the defrosting water has melted all the ice on the con-
denser coils (19), proceed as follows:
y Open the condensate discharge valve (25).
O The defrosting water and condensate will flow into the
collecting container.
If there is still ice on the coils after the above process:
/ Close the discharge valve (25) again and pour water
over the condenser coils (19) again.
It is also possible to defrost the condenser coils (19) with-
out using water. This, however, requires considerably
more time. If hot water is not being used, it is not neces-
sary to dismount the parts mounted on the condenser
housing. The system must be vented and the valve plate (5)
must be open to permit the condensate to flow out.
Before beginning with a new freeze-drying cycle it is
important to make sure that all the defrosting water and
condensate have been discharged from the condenser coils
(19) and the discharge hose. If there is still a bit of moistu-
re on the condenser coils (19), this can be dried off with a
clean cloth. For safety reasons, the discharge valve (25)
should be open and closed briefly.
Note:
After the defrosting process has been completed, the
condensate discharge valve (25) must be closed again.
The unit should be evacuated, without a charge, after
the condenser coils (19) have been cooled again to
make sure that the unit is ready for the next cycle.
Remarque:
Dans ce cas, on ne declenche pas le groupe frigorifique
(20) qui refroidit le condenseur (19) ct done la glace
contenue sur le faisceau tubulaire ne se degivre pas.
Si au contraire, on doit lyophiliser une grosse quantite de
produit et done disposer d'une grande capacite frigorifi-
que, le condenseur (19) doit etre libere de toute glace. On
procede comme suit:
/ appuyer sur la touche ,,DRYING" (51)
O la pompe a vide et le groupe frigorifique s'arretent
/ enlever l'ensemble, y compris la vanne-plateau (3) (cat
n° 045 60) de la chambre de condensation.
L'embout du flexible d'ecoulement des condensats doit
etre dispose dans un recipient de recuperation des conden-
sats et surtout ne pas le plonger au fond du recipient.
Afin de degivrer le condenseur dans un temps minimum,
on peut verser de l'eau chaude dans la chambre de con-
densation.
La chaleur fournie permet de degivrer le condenseur (19)
rapidement.
Lorsque le degivrage est termine, on procede comme suit:
/ la vanne d'evacuation des condensats (25) est ouverte
O les condensats s'ecoulent vers une recipient collecteur
Si vous constatez encore de la glace sur le faisceau du con-
denseur, vous repetez 1'operation en versant de nouveau
de l'eau chaude en ayant au prealable ferme la vanne. (25)
La glace contenue sur le condenseur peut etre eliminee
sans apport d'eau chaude mais cela demandera plus de
temps a se degivrer.
A cette fin, il n'est pas aecessaire d'enlever la chambre de
sublimation mais seulement remettre la chambre de des-
siccation a l'atmosphere, ouvrir la vanne plateau, laisser
les condensats se degivrer et s'evacuer naturellement.
Vous devez controler avant chaque lyophilisation si les
condensats de la lyophilisation precedente on ete bien eva-
cues.
S'il reste encore quelques condensats dans la canalisation
ou sur le faisceau, vous pouvez les eliminer avec un chif-
fon propre. Par securite, il est recommande de reouvrir la
vanne d'evacuation des condensats (25) pendant un court
instant et ensuite si rien ne s'ecoule la refermer.
Remarque:
Apres la phase de degivrage, la vanne d'evacuation des
condensats (25) doit elre fermec. L'appareil devra 6tre
libre de condensats avant toute nouvcllc lyophilisation,
c.a.d. avant le prc-refroidissement du condenseur et
ainsi etre stir de redemarrer un cycle sans pertubations.
