Okay, so what did I just buy? First of all, thank you for choosing the Kemper Profiler, or “Profiler” for short. We have no doubt that once you realize everything it can do, you will be as thrilled with it as we are. In our quest to provide a complete solution for your guitar-playing needs, we wanted our users to be able to go far beyond a predefined set of digital amp models.

That’s it! It’s time to start browsing Rigs and playing some guitar. The Profiler is well-suited to bass guitars - many professional bass players have made the switch to add flexibility and to tailor their individual sound. We included all this connectivity so you can use the Profiler as a central hub in your studio, allowing you to connect your guitar to a variety of other amps, ef- fects and recording gear, and switch between them easily.
Seite 11: Stomps
GETTING STARTED Once you have found a Rig that you like, you can use the soft knobs underneath the display to change the gain and the eq of the Rig. These controls display their current value on the LED collar around the knobs. Stomps The first Section, labeled “STOMPS”, is for your stomp box effects.

KEMPER PROFILER Effects Here, you can add more built-in stereo effects to the signal, after it has passed through the amplifier and virtual cabinet. The Delay and Reverb Modules in the Effects Section have a fixed position and purpose. The knobs un- derneath the signal flow give you direct access to the DELAY and REVERB MIX, as well as for DELAY FEEDBACK and REVERB TIME.

GETTING STARTED Rig Navigation Cross Use this to navigate through the Rigs. Left and Right buttons will switch sequentially, while the up and down but- tons will change in larger steps. A newly-selected Rig is instantly recalled. Type Knob When an effect or stomp is in the focus, the TYPE knob will select between different types of effect algorithms. For example, in stomp edit this knob will select distortions, compressor and modulations among others.

KEMPER PROFILER Browse Knob In Browse Mode this knob can be used to quickly browse the list of Rigs within your current View. You can then select one of the listed Rigs. At this time you could either load the selected Rig or delete it with the soft but- ton “Delete”.
Seite 15: Lock Button
To do this, select a Module and press COPY. Next, select a destination Module and press PASTE. In general, you can use common sense to determine if the Profiler will let you copy settings from one Module to another. For example, you cannot copy the Reverb settings to the Amp Module. However, it is possible to copy the content of a Stomp to Effect X or MOD in the Effects Section.

KEMPER PROFILER If you press STORE when you have an Effects Module in focus, you are given the option to save either the set- tings of the currently selected Module as a Module Preset, or to save the entire Rig. Choose soft button #1 to cre- ate a new Module Preset and to dial in an appropriate name.
Seite 17: Input Source Select
You can still use mono effect loops when using the ALTERNATIVE INPUT, but avoid using the stereo effect loop; it uses the ALTERNATIVE INPUT as the right return input for the loop, and the Profiler does not automatically compensate for this situation.
Seite 18: Noise Gate Knob
“Monitor Cab Off”, a global switch to bypass the virtual speaker cabinet individually for the MONITOR OUTPUT By engaging “Monitor Cab Off” you can run the Profiler directly to a power amp driving a guitar cabinet on stage, while the MAIN OUTPUTS still carry the full signal, including the virtual speaker, to be connected to the front mix- ing desk.
Seite 19: Master Volume Knob
Rig Volume controls the relative volume of a Rig, and is stored as a part of it. Use this control to level out volume differences between Rigs. All Kemper Factory Rigs are normalized at 0 dB. Besides the Volume parameters in Stomps, Stack, and Effects you can use Rig Volume to adjust volume amongst Rigs.

XLR (balanced) or quarter-inch TS-jacks (unbalanced). The XLR outputs are protected against 48V phantom power fed by a mixing desk. However, you should avoid feeding phantom power into the Profiler if you want the best audio quality. Like all inputs and outputs, it offers a GROUND LIFT to prevent a hum loop.

Monitor Output Use this mono output to connect the Profiler to a stage monitor with its own level controls. This output also has its own GROUND LIFT. You can also connect this output to a power amp and a regular guitar cabinet. In this case, you need to switch the cabinet simulation off, using the soft button “Monitor Cab Off”...

Output/Master Section. ✔ ✔ Please note that the Profiler’s XLR input does not provide phantom power. Power Connect this to your wall outlet using the supplied power cable. The internal, universal power supply accepts 100 V - 240 V AC via the usual IEC inlet.
Seite 23: Midi
MIDI Use these ports to connect the Profiler to MIDI equipment. You can send MIDI program changes to the MIDI IN- PUT to switch between Rigs, and MIDI control changes to switch and control effects. If you send MIDI clock to the Profiler, it will instantly sync its tempo, so tempo-dependent effects, like delay or tremolo, will adapt their timing.

You will find controls for the power amplifier on the dedicated page of the Out- put/Master menu: Power Amp Switch ♦ Switches the power for the built-in power amp. There is no specific need to switch it off when not in use; unlike a tube power amp, the built-in Class D amp is not in any danger when you have no speaker connected.

If you have ever used a digital guitar processor before, you will know that building your own Rigs is part of the fun! You will find it surprisingly easy to do in the Profiler. Simply bring any Module or Section into focus, activate it, and select from a range of Module and Section Presets using the BROWSE knob.

KEMPER PROFILER Stomps Section This is a mono Section. It includes all the built-in stomp box simulations that you can place before (pre-) your virtual amplifier. An idle Stomp Module can be activated by pressing and holding the corresponding STOMP A-D button.

Modulation Modulation can also hold the same effects as Stomp A, B, C, or D, but in stereo. Profiler Head and PowerHead are equipped with dedicated MOD RATE and MOD INTENSITY knobs to work specifically with modulation ef- fects such as Chorus, Flanger, Phaser or Rotary Speaker.

KEMPER PROFILER Delay These are the built-in delay effects. You can determine the stereo placement of the delay signals, the rhythmic values of the repeats, and also the character of their sound. “Delay Feedback” and “Delay Mix” can be controlled directly, by using the dedicated knobs.

You can control the Profiler using a Profiler Remote, which is perfectly integrated and easy to use. Alternatively, you can send MIDI messages to the Profiler, either by using your computer and a MIDI interface, or with a dedi- cated MIDI controller. KEMPER PROFILER Wenn sie zwischen verwandten Effekttypen umschalten (z. B. Phaser und Flanger), werden sie feststellen, dass Parameter, die in beiden Effekten vorhanden sind, ihre Werte behalten. Das macht es sehr viel einfacher, die Wirkung verschiedener Effekt-Typen zu vergleichen. Wenn sie beispielsweise eine spezielle Einstellung für einen Air Chorus gefunden haben, können sie danach bequem die anderen Typen Vintage Chorus und Hyper Chorus...

BEDIENELEMENTE AUF DER VORDERSEITE einzelne Rigs löschen. Im Performance Modus können sie sich mit dem BROWSE-Regler durch alle Performances bewegen. Wenn sich ein Modul oder eine Sektion im Fokus befindet, dient dieser Regler zur Auswahl der entsprechenden Presets. So haben sie z. B. im Delay-Modul Zugriff auf ihre Delay-Presets oder in der Stomp-Sektion Zugriff auf Presets mit praktischen Stomps-Kombinationen.

Wählen sie dazu ein Modul und drücken sie COPY. Wählen sie als nächstes ein Zielm- odul und drücken sie PASTE. Voilà! Der Profiler lässt es natürlich nicht zu, dass sie z.B. die Reverb-Einstellungen in das Amp Modul kopieren. Eine Stomp nach X oder MOD in der Effektsektion zu kopieren ist hingegen kein Problem.

BEDIENELEMENTE AUF DER VORDERSEITE (10) Gain-Regler Der GAIN-Regler kontrolliert den Grad der Verzerrung und deckt dabei einen extrem weiten Bereich zwischen ultra-clean bis total verzerrt ab. Der Regelbereich ist für alle Profile gleich gross, auch wenn der Referenzamp möglicherweise einen geringeren Dynamikumfang hat. Der Gain-Parameter kompensiert automatisch den Pegelverlust, der durch ein Absenken des „Gain“...

Der SPDIF INPUT wird üblicherweise für Reamping in Verbindung mit einem Audio- Reamp Interface benutzt. SPDIF-Signale sind immer stereophon. Der Profiler verarbeitet jedoch nur die linke Seite des Signals beim Reamping. Falls kein SPDIF-Kabel angeschlossen ist oder kein SPDIF-Signal anliegt, so wird automatisch der Front INPUT aktiviert.
Seite 51: Noise Gate-Regler
Rig als auch in einem Input-Preset gespeichert. Im Browse-Modus ist die Input- Sektion standardmässig gelockt. Das schliesst folglich auch die Einstellung des „Noise Gate“ ein. Im Profiler- Modus wirkt das „Noise Gate“ auch mit dem Referenzverstärker. Es verfälscht dabei das resultierende Profil nicht.

Rig-Volume kontrolliert die relative Lautstärke eines Rigs und wird zusammen mit dem Rig abgespeichert. Bei allen Kemper Factory Rigs ist das Rig-Volume auf 0 dB voreingestellt. Neben den „Volume“-Parametern in ein- zelnen Stomps, im Stack und den Effects kann man auch Rig-Volume dazu verwenden, Rigs untereinander in der Lautstärke anzupassen.
Seite 53: Anschlüsse Auf Der Rückseite
Nachdem wir uns die Vorderseite angesehen haben, werfen wir jetzt einen Blick auf die Rückseite. Main Outputs Das ist ein Stereo-Ausgang. Verwenden sie diesen Ausgang, um den Profiler in einem Studio an ein Mischpult anzuschliessen oder in einer Live-Situation mit dem Saal-Mischpult zu verbinden. An diesen Ausgängen liegt nor- malerweise das komplette Signal des Rigs an, inklusive Amplifier, Cabinet und allen Effekten.

Dieser Ausgang hat einen eigenen GROUND LIFT-Schalter. Sie können diesen Ausgang auch dazu verwenden, den Profiler mit einer Endstufe und einer Gitarrenbox zu ver- binden. Schalten sie aber in diesem Fall die Lautsprechersimulation im Profilers mit dem Soft-Taster „Monitor Cab Off“...

Um eine inaktive Stomp zu aktivieren, drücken sie den entsprechenden Stomp A/B/ C/D-Taster und halten ihn kurz. Sobald sich die Stomp im Fokus befindet, können sie mit dem TYPE-Regler durch die Liste aller verfügbaren Stomp-Typen scrollen oder mit dem BROWSE-Regler ein Stomp-Preset aufrufen.

Cabinet-Modul ♦ Wählen sie durch Betätigen des CABINET-Tasters das Cabinet-Modul an. Sie können Lautsprecherboxen und Ver- stärker aus verschiedenen Profilen frei miteinander kombinieren, um neue Stacks zu erzeugen.
