Protector
The NOVA VENTUS is fitted with two back protectors.
• A light foam protector, which reaches from the seat board to the lower back area.
The foam protector addresses one of the main disadvantages of traditional airbag
systems – even before take off the the pilot is fully protected.
• For additional back protection, there is a viscoelastic soft foam protector made by
the German SAS-TEC company. With excellent impact absorption rates, this provides
additional protection in the spinal area.

PROTECTOR
With this combination of two protection systems, the VENTUS offers a high level of
passive safety. It has to be acknowledged that any protection system has limitations.
By far the most effective safety measure is active flying and a correct assessment of
the risks.
Foam protector: installing/checking the foam protector
The foam protector, with its taylor-made shape, is connected to the harness via Velcro
straps. In rare cases it may be necessary to check it has been correctly installed. If you
suspect that the foam protector is not located properly, please check the following:
• Open the zip in the main compartment.
• Within the second compartment, a Velcro strap in the lower part of the main
storage compartment and at the bottom of the harness, hold in the protector. To
check whether the protector is located correctly, feel with your fingers whether the
Velcro straps on the protector and harness cover each other completely.
• If this is not the case, contact a NOVA service partner immediately.
Checking the correct location of the protector is an important and necessary step
during the harness service and inspection.
SAS-TEC back protector
Whether the SAS-TEC back protector is located correctly can be checked by
firstly opening the zip on the inner pocket. The protector sits within a blue pouch, which
serves to centre it. If the entire protector is within the pouch, the protector is definitely
in the correct position. If this is not the case, the protector should be placed completely
within the blue pouch again.
Adjustments: basics
Before the first flight, the harness should be adjusted on the ground. Clip the
harness into a spreader bar, sit in it and close the buckles. It is even more helpful if you
wear your usual flying clothes – a thick jacket can have a marked influence on seating
position.
Please test your adjustments in calm flying conditions. While in the air, make note of
the changes you wish to make. After the flight you can then make further adjustments
to change the harness settings.
