Troubleshooting
Malfunctions: causes and corrective
actions
In the event of malfunction, check the
basic pre-conditions for correct
operation:
1. Is the power on?
2. Is there any oil in the tank?
3. Are all shut-off valves open?
4. Are all regulating and safety devi-
ces adjusted (e.g. boiler thermo-
stat, lack of water safety device,
end of travel stop, etc.)?
Fault
No ignition
Motor fails to start
Pump fails to deliver oil
Loud mechanical noise
Uneven atomization
Oil fails to arrive
No signal from flame detector
Burner does not start
Warning light on
Burner head is heavily oiled inside or
has heavy coke deposits
Solenoid valve fails to open
Solenoid valve does not close fully
If the malfunction cannot be cleared
after checking the points mentioned
above, check functions related to the
individual parts of the burner.
Cause
Ignition electrodes short-circuiting
Ignition electrodes too far apart
Electrodes dirty and/or wet
Insulator cracked
Ignition transformer defective
Ignition cable scorched
Control and safety unit defective
Motor defective (bearing seized)
Condensator defective
Gears damaged
Suction valve leaking
Oil pipe leaking
Isolation valve closed
Filter clogged
Filter leaking
Pump performance has deteriorated
Coupling defective
Pump sucking air
Excessive vacuum in oil pipe
Nozzle loose
Nozzle blocked
Nozzle worn
Nozzle with wrong spray angle
Nozzle blocked
Solenoid valve defective
Flame detector dirty/defective
Automatic ignition unit
Wrong setting
Wrong size of nozzle
Wrong amount of air in mixture
Air in suction pipe (leak)
Boiler-room insufficiently ventilated
Coil defective
Control and safety unit defective
Seatings dirty

Lubrication
The bearing surfaces of the moving
parts of the burner are
maintenance-free. If ball-bearing wear
is detected and remedied in good time,
this will avoid more serious
consequential damage to the burner.
So be on the lookout for any increase in
noise from the motor.
Corrective action

Check connection of control and safety unit,
unlock and determine cause of malfunction
Correct setting value
Replace
Re-set burner
Boiler-room ventilation must be ensured by
an unobstructed opening of cross-section at
least 50% of all cross-sections of the flue.
Replace coil
Replace control and safety unit
Open valve, clean seatings
Replace pump
