8. Turn the turntable to the other 30° angle and grind
the remaining cutting edges as described above.
Setting the depth gauge distance
If all the cutting links' cutting edges are sharpened,
your saw chain is sharp, but it may not cut.
Therefore, there must always be a depth gauge dis-
tance (= distance between depth gauge and cutting
edge). As a rule, it is 0.5 – 0.8 mm.

m Too great a depth gauge distance increases the risk
of kick-back when sawing. For this reason, you need
to check the distance in accordance with the infor-
mation provided by your saw chain manufacturer
and, if necessary, file it down with a file.
m Make sure you round off the front edge of the depth
gauge with a file. The original shape of the cutting
link must be preserved.
